ever since i started gettin into cars i always wanted to go to the track. Now finally i got my dsm and i think im ready, just need some advise from the people who know...

i have 97 gst spyder
stock clutch
MBC
greddy BOV
t25
motor is basically stock
I will lower tire pressure to about 18psi

i just have one problem with my MBC...when i hit full boost it goes to 16psi but then immediatly drops to 14 then down to 10 as i go through high RPM's...ive searched but cant seem to find out why? Ive checked for vaccum leaks and cant seem to find any.

One more thing, what is the max PSI i can push with stock fuel pump on stock motor with t25??

Any advise and pointers? Thanks

the t-25 is to small to keep up. At around 5000 rpm it will decrease boost to around 10 because its to small to keep up, thats prob what your seeing with your boost gauge. And 15psi is the t-25 max psi so after that it just produces heat.

What kind of tires are you running? You shouldn't run street tires too far below their rated pressure. It will actually cause the tread in the middle of the tire to come up off the ground and give you less traction. Check the pressure rating on the side of the tire. I wouldn't go much more than 10-15 psi lower than that. Better to have a bit too much pressure than too little pressure.

1.) Lower front pressure about 15psi lower than optimal as already mentioned and leave the rears at optimal...

2.) Leave your boost controller where it is at, 14 psi is great on stock fuel and 16 psi spikes are ok usually.

3.) Shift at 5800-6000rpm max. because you won't make much power past that on a T25 if any...

4.) The car is FWD, so try and launch at a mid-range rpm like 3500-4000rpm, if you spin or wheelhop, go down to 3250rpm, and so on until you find a good rpm where you don't wheelhop or spin much. A T25 will start spinning VERY fast so there won't be much lag, but the higher the rpm you can launch at the better...

5.) Again, it's FWD, so the two things you need to be really fast is slicks in front and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!

thanks guys...right now i have snow tires in the front but therer starting to get worn out so i do want to change them..I was thinking of getting drag radials?

also if it tends to spike to 16psi then drops is that ok? I dont want it to blow the motor

16psi spike will be fine, its not gonig to blow your motor. The T-25 really cant push much past that.

my friends are having an argument with me saying the best i will do with good launch is 15.2...is this true?? i know this car is capable of hitting high 14's with the stuff i got. What do you guys think i will hit moreless:(

well also with the spyder you have more weight. That low 15 it may run from the factory is on a fresh car to, no old motor and tranny. You may very well hit 14's, but dont plan on it. This is also your first time at the track. You need to learn how to launch the car, where to shift the car. Its not as simple as driving it down the track.

being FWD launch around 3k and see how that does with wheel hop and spinning.
with a t-25 shift around 6k-6300 the t-25 is dead at this point and isnt helping much.

I hope your able to hit 14s
good luck.

thanks for all the info..also the car has 59K original miles so everything is basically running tough

yea i wouldnt expect to break into the 14's the first time at the track. My advice is all in the throttle control. If you break the tires on the street, then you will definately do it at the track. My FWD car didnt start having traction problems until i put an exhaust on it. If it does have traction problems, put a front strut bar on there, it will make you understeer more around corners, but for drag racing it will make the front end feel nice and tight and will noticably help the wheelspin.
Id go with a 3000-3500 rpm launch HALF THROTTLE, make sure to slip the clutch good, second gear, give it 3/4 throttle, and full throttle from there, you will probably go through the 1/4 at the top of 3rd gear, you can try to short shift into 4th for a little more mph. As said above, dont shift above 6000rpm you wont be making any horsepower above that. If your clutch and trans allow it, try to keep your foot on the throttle when you shift, dont floor it, but leave your foot on there to try to keep the revs up.

Get used to launching your car and getting quick times off the tree, everything else will come into place if you can get those two things right.

lastly, good luck and have some fun at the track!

thanks man...i want to see what i run at the track basically stock and i hope to get at least 14.9 but once i run...i will throw on this 14b turbo i have along with downpipe and i will see what i run from there and see what the difference was!

Dont forget to take everything out of your hatch before you go unless you want to keep it full weight (with spare, jack, etc)
If you have a good tranny you should run 14.5's or so, fwd's are more able to put down power (no matter how miniscule) in top end than fwds *unless you have 98394879 hp* just because they have less drivetrain loss

yea my tranny is good...before i go im removing my spare tire, jack, tools, my system, and back seats..with all that removed and decent driving what would i be lookin to run at here??

i just got a TD04H turbo..ive been searching but people im getting two different answers to what turbo it is and what car it came from?? Its TD04H model and people either say its 13C of 15g..which one is it??

Also its only oil cooled...i thought i was going to finally upgrade from that t-25 but guess not, i looked at the flange where the manifold bolts on too and it looks different..any advise? thanks
