Shifting at 6,500 seems about right being a 14b and a relatively stock car, just don't slip the clutch as much. It just takes some practice, you will get it.

Ya and it is not a stock clutch. PO is unsure of it but he said it was a yellow pressure plate and none of it looked stock. So I am assuming it may be an atc?

I was shifting at ~6500 or so. And are you suggesting just dumping my clutch? I need this for a DD as well so I want to try and preserve it as best I can.

My ACT 2100 is yellow as well. If you are worried about wear and tear on your clutch then don't ride it for the whole 60'. The purpose of slipping the clutch is to get traction. With your power level and the fact that you have AWD, traction shouldn't be an issue. Let the clutch out fast while putting the pedal on the floor. Practice, practice, practice. It you find that you are spinning (not just chirping but for real spinning) then use more slip but until then, forget it.

Hope this helps!

But dont bring it out so fast that you bog the launch since you dont have enough power. you shouldnt be on the clutch more than maybe a full second

Agreed...^^
You should have any issues with traction in a stock AWD... rev it and let the clutch go when you see green... if your spinning them you need better or new tires!!
If you worried about breaking you car, you shouldn't really even race it, honestly!
But to save something from snapping i would not rev so high when you launch!! :/
but you letting the clutch slip will wear you clutch plate out faster also!

Good luck you and op!

Its a small 16g,

Thanks guys for the tips, I will give it a try this weekend and have more results/pics/vids to post up.

The car does have an act street clutch in it. If i were you i would get some 1000cc injectors and an e85 tune on that car and run 12's. Any clutch on an awd should get you a sub 2.0 60ft. Personally, i drive around on drag radials, and a puck clutch, and cut 1.6 60's all over surprise.

Alright, is 1000cc big enough to run E85? I am sure it ease, I see ppl on ehre running smaller, but then I here from some ppl that they are not big enough and should be looking for around 1600cc's or better? This weekend I should be getting my fuel stuff sent out and need to figure out what to buy. I will also be ordering a link so it can be tuned.

I forget what the exact number it is, but i wanna say it takes something like 35% more fuel using e85. So you figure if 550cc's is good for what you have now, 750cc would be good for e85. But then you would need fuel pump, lines and regulator. A stock car with a 16g, you should be able to get into the 13's

Ya, I understand that much but I want to have a big enough injector for my future upgrades to that way I dont have to keep buying injectors, I just want one then done and just retune. Hopefully this weekend will turn out better.

1000's can put out 500whp on e85, depending on afr's. Another member on this board made about 450 awhp, on 750's and e85. You do not want to buy the cheap 1600's, they suck at anything other than wot. The biggest non id2000 injector i would run on a street car would probably be the bluemax 1450's, with a voltage box.

Alright guys, tomorrow is the big day! I am heading a lil early to get a lil more practice in and try a few different things. Any last minute pointers? Or things I need to change/focus on?

I am going to be removing a few parts and my misc. items to lighten up a but, nothing spectacular just back seat bottoms, maybe tops, sub, spare tire, and if Ican get to it the jack and hardware. Then misc. glovebox/centerconsole items that I dont want flying around.

Keep your tires fully inflated, you wont have a problem with traction so you might as well reduce the friction holding you back. other than that just keep in mind everything that was stated in the thread

Here are a few tips to help you out.
To cut better 60' times practice bogging your car. it seems like your on the clutch too much so go practice a few launches in the driveway, or behind some industrial building or something.

learning to launch should start with bogging. so take it to 3,500 and dump the clutch and mash the gas at the same time. it will bog, you wont break anything your at a reasonably low power level.
dump the clutch a few times in a row so you know what it does when it bogs and your used to it. No need to even shift into 2nd. this is just launch practice.

Once you have done it two or three times, the goal now becomes how to slip the clutch just enough to barely avoid bogging down. start at around 4500 rpm remember you want to put as much load on the engine and clutch as possible just at the edge of bogging down. dont worry about what exact number you launch your car at yet, its gonna take some practice before that matters enough to your times.

once you get it 1 time you will know the feeling you are going for. just rev it till it feels right and get your foot off the clutch as soon as is possible without boggin. youll know it when you get it.

Thanks man, that is real helpful. Maybe tonight after school I will be able to get a few in by the school after everyone has left. or over by my apt.

Alright guys today is the big day!! I went out last night and practiced and practiced and got it down a lot better than I had it!! Thanks endeffect0!! Good tips. Hopefully today I will be bringing back some better timeslips!

Did pretty good yesterday. I only made it to the second round eliminations though, but got 4 or so runs in before those ones. Best time was 15.10 and 60ft of 2.1. I will get pics up of the time slips later and vids. I won all the races but 2. One was cause I redlighted and the other was when I get eliminated.

What track did you go to?

Speedworld both times. Probably going to hit it back up in a week or 2 when I get my fuel stuff on and tuned.

Here are some vids.

Congratulations man!
You managed to cut half a second off your 60' times and 7/10s of a second off your 1/4. damn impressive especially because you did all that by just improving your driving skills.

I know alot of people who would kill your mother for 7/10ths LOL

-cheers.

aw hell man, cutting the lights will be fun either way.

try to get a few people to guess you time, put a few bucks on it or something. maybe biggest looser buys gas. its hard not to have a good time at the track :thumb:

Haha thanks man! I was happy with it anyway, and I am going to keep working my launches and see what I can cut more off of it before my next mods.

Most of my friends go to speedworld to race. I was thinking about taking my n/a up there out of curiosity to see what it would run but idk i might be a little embarrassing LOL.

Hey dont be embarrased, you shoulda been at the drags this last weekend, there was a lot of lets say, not-worth-it-to-drive-out-there-and-waste-the-gas-to-race kinda cars. Like at the fuel station there in front of me there was a guy putting 108 in his stock cavalier. WTF And feel free to come out I will try and post up in the Phoenix forum when i will be heading out there

Ya, i need to get some bets going cause all my friends were guessing high 16's and for my reaction time to be 2.5, yes 2.5 LOL

Here are pics of the time slips. I will be adding my timeslip to my profile as well if I can figure it out :p
The yellow ones are losing ones and white is the winning ones. I am number 101.

Haha 108 in a stock cavi. You got to love some of the idiots out here. I just dont want to go out and run like a 19's. If i get some tires for my front rims i might just cruise out. Where in avondale you live?

I am at Mcdowell and Dysart, right by the 10 Dysart exit, on the north side of it.
