I just got my car back together after 9 months in the garage, and I have some questions.
I was using the logger (TMO) to set timing, but I cant get idle lower than like 940 rpm @ 11 degrees advance. Also, my 02 readings never go above .04. Ill put up a log later, Im in school now though. I also noticed that my air volume sensor is always reads a value of 0. I get readings on all the other MAS sensors, is the volume sensor not used or something? Also, could someone explain what exactly feul trim low/medium/high is. I logged the low trim and it was 100 all the time. BTW, I did all this w/out actually movin the car its still in the garage and i just wanted to see if this stuff is ok.

here is a log from a few min ago. The timing was never steady, until the motor warmed up the idle was up and down between 1000 and 2000. timing seems a bit far advanced for just being in the garage and not having the turbo spool or nethin. please give me some advice, I am trying to learn how to tune, but no one around me knows how to to teach me hands on so i am kinda stabbin in the dark.
RPM - knock - O2 - %throttle - timing advance

1063 – 0 - .02 – 8 – 15
969 - 0 - .02 – 8 – 12
2250 – 13 - .23 –24 – 34
2469 – 3 - .27 – 29 - 37
3156 – 0 - .16 – 46 – 32
2344 – 0 - .41 – 19 – 37
906 – 0 - .02 – 8 - 12

Well in order to tell if somethings wrong i think you need to do a little longer of a log but for wha ti could tell you 02's are not cycling from .1-.8 or so so the 02 sensor maybe bad, samething was happening with me recently, also if you can log the 02 trim and that see if it fluctuates if not 02 sensor maybe bad. I dont have any experience with TMO but in my pocketloger and everyone elses the idle timing should be around 8 to 12 degrees. I dont' know exactly what yu're trying to get fromthis log but i can't make out much. What exactly are you looking to find?

Are you referring to your base timing? You can not set your base timing using a data logger. You have to ground the ecu and use a timing light. Start there.

Also, set your Biss screw in the middle and adjust your throttle cable to where you want to set your idle at.

Why? what is the difference between looking at my computer screen and seeing ok my ecu is advancing the timing XX degrees at XXX rpm, vs. using an inductive timing light and tryin to look down that little hole to see the timing mark and have to have someone else hold the light, look at the rpm, and ajust the cas. why cant i just look at what the ecu says and go off of that. it will tell me the same thing an inductive light would, no. please correct me if i am wrong, but dont just tell me thats how ur supposed to do it use a light tell me why.

o and btw, this is gonna sound really newb, but i never had to mess w/ the biss screw where is it? i know its on the tb, but is it the one in the recessed hole or the one on top stickin out. cause the one in the hole on my car is completely stripped out(previous owner, NOT ME). hope thats not it.

The timing you see on the logger is the BASE timing plus whatever the ECU is adding to that. In order to set your BASE timing you have to do what was stated above...and yes your BISS is the recessed 1...if it's tripped it's probably leaking...get a new one from the delaer, there cheap.

Correct. The ECU assumes that it is set correctly, but recieves a timing value that is based on other engine variables, such as RPM etc. The ecu doesn't know the actual position of the CAS and therefor assumes that it is in the correct position. Just set it using a timing light and be done with it. There is a vfaq on how do do it. www.vfaq.com

Update - I timed it per your instructions today, and once I got it not advanced horribly then it idled fine at about 750-820 rpm. I took it for a test drive and it pulls like a raped ape like sickness. but i think i have a boost leak somewhere cause im only reading 5 psi. mY o2 kinda scared me though, my o2v were at .02 or 0 most of the time, sometimes they would go to like .35 when i lifted. the 02 trimlevels were at 100 the whole time, as were the high and low fuel trim. the medium was at 107 most of the time. Im thinkin its a bad O2 sensor, which kinda pisses me off since i just got it(used, but still $20) I dont have money for a new one though, geuss ill have to start saving my pennies.
