1st gear keeps wont stay in some times...

Some times when I let the clutch out in first the car will move 3-4 feet and pop out. Its really embarrassing, if you try to hold it in it just grinds and don't move.

I have noticed my tranny makes a whining noise when in first gear and while coasting in others.

This is my first awd and was wondering if the whining is normal.
I have BG Syncroshift 2 and it helped in the beginning.

Which is a better deal sheps stage one rebuild or jacks value rebuild?

Shep's shop is way closer to me than jack.

Could the popping out be a result of anything else ie: shifter cables, adjustment, clutch adj?

I just put skate board bearings under the hood and it didn't help at all.

Thanks for the help, Luke

The car, engine, tranny, clutch all have 91k miles on them.

i just had transmission work done from Jack and i have to say i was honestly impressed. There were delays (there always are in the auto industry) but none were his fault. Then through miscommunication i showed up and no one was at his office. To make it up to me he had the car driven to my door, talk about customer service! The transmission is a ton better than it was before and i couldnt argue with the price!

Go with Jack. The value build is 10 times better than sheps stage 1 build. I think the stage 1 build is pretty much stock. Jacks build has a 4 spider gear center diff which upgrades the weakest link. Not to mention he gives you a double synchroed 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd depending on the year of the gearset. Its what I run and its great.

Well they do seem like helpful people over at Jacks and they seemed to have had a hard time the last month or two. I ordered my trans and tranfer(core swaps) 9/10. Was told it would be shipped no later than the 23rd. I'm a single dad and this is my only transportation atm. So i pull my trans a few days after the 23rd to get ready. Well it was pushed back, im not one to complain so i just emailed them asking whats up. They said it would be shipped shortly. So anyway i ended up getting my email with the shipping number on 10/10/08. Said it would be in on the 16th(i was wanting to go to my first local dsm gathering on the 18th) but no problem i could get it all in before then. Also keep in mind i have no ride all this time( my fault i guess i should have planed better) So then the next thing that happens is fedex botched things after i didnt go to work on the 16th(i checked the fedex tracking IT said the 16th) to sign for the stupid transmission. So im pissed now LOL so when i went to work out i got a little to crazy on the punching bag, broke my hand(you can say it IDIOT)...... Well trans came in the next day i ended up putting it in by myself with a broken hand on the 18th(the day of the gathering). I was to tired to go hang out and in to much pain LOL. O one other thing I still don't have my transfer case, i just put my old one back in. But like bluegs03 said other than the miscommunication problem they do a good job on the rebuilds. As far your whining noise If you have a aftermarket clutch, urethane motor mounts, or a welded center dif your trans and drive line will seem to make lots of noise. Also i think it says on www.jackstransmissions.com not to use BG Syncroshift. I used the redline heavy SP/Valvoline mix that they recommend. He also has videos on how to set your clutch very helpful information on jacks page.

p.s. I'm not trying to down jacks, i just order at a bad time thats all, we all have our problems. I just happened to order when we all had problems LOL (i just went through a bad divorce, wife cheated and left),

Very unlikely. It's due to either hub thrust wear, slider wear, dog tooth wear, or shifter fork damage/wear - all of which are inside the tranny. See DSM Transmissions.
I just had mine rebuilt by a company around here and my shift fork was toast and that wouldn't keep it in 3rd gear at all. I would say go with Jack's or the place in mass called DSG but thats kind of far from you.

Well I emptied the clutch system of fluid, It was really dirty, then I bled it, and adjusted it. No dice.

I had the hood open and dad told me to shift it into first, so I did. He said it wasn't going all the way in due to the shifter. So he bent the shifter linkage mount toward the firewall and voila, it works perfect, No pop outs or anything.

I'm happy I don't have to pay 800+ to get a transmission rebuilt that only has 92k on it 87k which were not horsed on.

:):)

Yea that synchro mesh crap should never be put into a tranny, it just eats through synchros. Only fluid that should be allowed in the tranny is the OEM mitsu fluid or redline. If you have too regular gear oil can be used as long as its synthetic.

Anyone heard of or used TMZPerformance in Milwaukee, WI?

I know the thread is old an all...worth a try.

If your talking about Tim Zimmer, then talk to Turboglenn on these forums, he'll vouch for him LOL. Or, you could pm him yourself on here, I think his username is twicks69, he has the 800hp 99 gsx. From what I've heard, he is damn good at what he does and a really good guy to work with.

But, I have a tre tranny and love it so... Lol
