So, hi everyone. First off, it should be known that I'm by no means as mechanically knowledgeable as some or possibly all of you. I want to be though. I've been looking for month for a fun and not so common summer car to buy come tax time. I see a Plymouth laser cruising down the highway next to me and fall in love. I'm sure you guys know what I mean. I get home and look it up ( yeah, I know). Anyways, some 4-5 month later (today) I pick up a 91 talon esi, converted to a tsi fwd. a whole list of mods, so I'm aware that this car has taken a beating in the past , but that coupled with the legendary reliability I've heard so much about still couldn't convince me that it was a bad idea. A few issues but nothing glaring. Anyway so I drop $2200 on this talon, hop in and start the 7 hour trip home. About an hour into the drive I let off the gas a bit, 70ish mph, and put my foot down again as the speed begins to dip. Rpm's shoot up but the car doesn't accelerate. Pop her out of gear and back in, hoping that would help, no luck. We pop the hood (my dad drove down to get it with me) there's a little oil pooled on the valve cover which had a small crack near spark plug 1, that had been epoxied apparently. Looked her over and couldn't see anything else, so we tried it again and it drove, for another 10 miles or so. Same thing happened, but I didn't try to put it back in gear. We noticed this time that there was a resistance and a slight grind when pushed back and forth when in neutral. The previous owner told me and says he replaced the tranny (used 100k) right before parking it for the winter and it has a fairly new xtd (?) racing clutch. He also said head was rebuilt, and he's sending receipts. That's all I can think of, but like I said I've got this whole list of mods if you need more info. Please don't flame because I'm young (20) and don't know a ton about cars. I don't mind paying whatever it takes to get her going again, and if possible I'm going to fix it myself. I just need opinions as to what the issue could be or is. Thanks guys.

Sorry for the novel

Read it, makes sense to me. Problem is, it's pretty hard to get it into 1st, and as of this morning when I went out to try this test, also 2nd and reverse. 3rd 4th and 5th all feel normal. Now here's something odd, I also noticed that when I shifted into what should have been first and let go, it slid towards third gear, kinda like how it centers in neutral, but it was in gear... Hopefully this is helpful, I've never heard of that happening before.

did you check to see if the oil levels good in it? you could have done some serious damage.
as far as I've heard from other car people dsm's are far from known as being reliable, but every dsm'er knows if you do your maintenance you shouldn't have much in the way of problems

but... It says how to adjust it so you can try to fix it.

Try this link. Shows you exactly how to adjust the clutch.

oil level is good, and it just had an oil change. I don't really know if it's been kept up on all maintenance as I just bought it. as far as the link you posted showing how to adjust it, I see that now. not really sure why/how I missed it before. :ohdamn: either way, thanks. I guess in the morning I'll adjust the clutch like the video(s) show and try again. another dumb question: As far as disabling the launch limiter and reaching the reaching the rev limiter, i was reading

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/419597-no-rev-limiter-launch-control-stock-ecu.html

which seems to indicate that I have neither? 1a w/ stock ecu and gm maft. So I should just ignore the section about disabling launch limiter and rev to 7-7.5k?

Thanks again guys. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

check the shifter cables i once put a zip tie on mine when i installed my amp and i wasnt able to shift into drive LOL thats for automatic atleast haha

it wanted to go backinto neutral if i put it in dirve stupid mistakes haha

Does your car have dsmlink? At a dead stop with the clutch pressed in does the car rev to redline or bounce at a certain rpm? I read the thread you posted a link to and that was some retarded kid who had a stock ecu thinking he can set a rev limiter. And what do you mean just rev to 7k? Like rev to 7k to launch the car? That's just dumb and your gonna break stuff.

Bottom line if your car has dsmlink then yea you can disable then launch limiter.
