Hey guys, I’ve been trying to search to find this and I’m having a hard time finding an answer so I’m hoping a more knowledgeable member might know. I’m doing a resto mod on my 1ga talon and I’m having it painted with in the next couple of weeks. What I would like to know is the spoiler supposed to be a gloss black? Or just a matte black? I’ve seen an old photo of one where it was glossy but it looked like a Chrysler stock photo or something. I just want to be sure. I would really like the paint to be accurate.

I think they are molded black.

Stock 1ga talon spoiler is not glossy. Its semi gloss. It is not matte. I bought my first one in 1992. It will fade but when new it was shiny, just not like new paint. Mirrors were the same if I recall correctly

Thank you! I will pass the information on to my paint guy and I will post pictures of the progress! If you’re in NC around Wilson, I have a guy who is affordable and does good work.

The OEM spoiler was new plastic with a sheen to it, basically polished plastic which would look similar to a gloss but the plastic didn't handle UV rays well and did all kinds of funky things as did the mirrors. I would say your best bet to get it to look OEM new would be to repolish it and not paint it. If you paint it base black gloss clear it would not look "OEM" but there is proll only 50 people in the world that would even know that so you may be splitting hairs here as the OEM spoilers turned to shit ASAP even by the mid 90s. I vote skip the black spoiler, they look like garbage, body color FTW is always best!! Painting the spoiler all glossy black does look nice as I have seen it done lots of times if you want to explore that option. Good luck.

I think this is right. It wasn't painted although you will probably have to do so. When I polished the car the spoiler always turned the rag black. I managed to keep mine looking good til about 2003 or 2004 then the whole car went to crap.

I think I am gonna go with the gloss black spoiler, I think it will look good. Really make the car pop. He’s getting started on it next week. It’s gonna take him about a month because he does the work at nights and on weekends. But he does good work and it’s totally gonna be worth it.
