so I put my key in, turn it and it starts cranking, then i take the key out and it keeps cranking over without the key in, 5-10 seconds later it stops. any ideas? if it helps. it also has no spark now.. ???

anything I can do that will help diagnose this?

just checked codes all that came up was for the front o2 sensor. does the cranking prob sound mechanical? like something in the steering column sticking or would it be electrical?

didnt think that was an option, turning the key off would cut power to the starter and it would stop cranking wouldnt it?

I had this exact thing happen to me. turned out to be a bad starter solenoid. if you can get to your starter smack it with a wrench a few times and see if the problem persists.

The best way to see what direction to go in is to put a test light on the small wire on the starter. While the key is in the cranking position it should light up. When the key is in the run position or off it should not light up. While the key is off if the light is off and it still cranks it's the starter. If it stays lit up after the key is off it's electrical.

Starter relay is sticking... obviously... it sticks in the "on" position. Your starter gets its power directly from the battery, so other electrical anythings don't have any effect on whether it will crank or not. You don't even have to have the key in the ignition and your starter will still work if you jump the relay. Take it out and get it rebuilt or replaced (I have one or four I could sell you if interested).
