so I have been having problems lately when cranking the car to start.

1st problem is it cranks very very slow till it fires then runs great doesn't matter if it is cold or hot

now once and a great wile it will start and spin really fast and start great

2nd problem is most to some times it will just click like it sounds like the starter got power but wont crank it if I keep turning the key off and on it will eventually start cranking again

3rd problem is when it dose crank it is very slow when it is very slow the starter seams like it start to disengage and will start grinding against the flywheel gears un till I stop and try again

did a voltage test wile cranking from positive off the starter to ground. it was 12v till I started cranking then it started dropping fast the lowest it got was 8 volts so im guessing that's why it cranks slow.

so the battery is good checked it plus its only 1-1/2 years old

starter I believe is good swapped it with one off a different car that it worked fine on.

battery is in the trunk one ground to the bottom of the floor one ground to the rear strut tower
then one ground from the firewall to the starter bolt
one ground from the fire wall to the intake.

power wire from battery is in thinks at least 2 gauge

any thought

thanks

I think there's a better ground spot in the hatch, one of the "baby carrier" bolts. It's welded to the frame, and must be a main part of the unibody. First thing I'd do is clean all your grounds, body side and wire-ring, as well as chase the threads with a tap. Then maybe add that additional fat ground to the baby carrier bolt in the hatch floor.

If u swap the starter to another car and or works fine, then I think you have a power/ground wire issue.

What type of wire is the power feed wire? I use O2 free sheething welding wire, 0 or 00 Gauge for all my battery relocations and I don't drop below 9.5 volts while cranking even on small Honda batteries.

I would address the power and grounds, make sure all paint and grime is off the trans/starter ground area, as well as the grounding points in the hatch for the battery.

Then check wire quality, good multi strand copper or silver wire if u can. No aluminum with copper coating BS that u find in cheap amp kits or anything.

Next, bench test the starter again to be sure
