1G Short Shifter Options

Hey guys I thought I'd start this thread for the 1g guys. What short shifter options have you guys came across? I've been searching like crazy and have only found one option. Right now my shifter assembly is horrible. Basically when I'm in gear you can still move it side to side like its in neutral. I considered a basic stock rebuild. Then I came across an old thread about how JNZtuning used to custom make short shifters for 1g dsm's. I am in contact with JNZ and am arranging to have one made. They no longer sell them due to mitsubishi not being able to supply certain OEM parts. I will keep everyone posted and let you guys know how this works out. Stay Tuned!

I also have solid shifter base and cable bushings installed. There is pretty much no play in the shifter and a good solid "thunk" when you change gears. I've been experimenting with different shift knobs and heights to get the feel I want.

Hey bud would you mind helping me out with what thread pitch the 3000gt/stealth shifters are for the gift knob? I wanna pick up a nice weighted one.

Is a short throw shifter even necessary? With a Symbroski kit, and no slack ( I used some home depot plastic bushings years ago to help it out), a good knob, I think a stock 1g shifter is perfect. I don't see the need of a short throw.

And also beware of those eBay shifters, or others. If they don't have stops you could be over extending and causing shifter cable or fork damage.

My whole shifter assembly is just trash so I figured I might as well try this out and let everyone know how it goes!

Also I found the thread pitch. It's 10mm x 1.25 same as the stock 1g thread pitch.

Well guys! Im debating between 2 types of shifter knobs. First is the torch blue blox 490. I have had a blox 490 in the past and it was a pretty great shift knob. It weighs 490 grams. Next option is the RTM talon shift knob. Which weighs in at 440 grams. I am debating between which shift knob to get. Does anyone have any pictures of the RTM talon shift knob installed in there car?? Heres a picture of the 2.

I like the second knob but I'd be worried about heat transfer though. If it gets hot like it does down here that things gonna get scolding hot.

I got one of the last short shifters from jnz from their last batch, I have a Symborski kit, and all the bushings are solid. There is still some play, but this is due to the fact that we have cables I believe, but it did alleviate some of the play that I used to have when it was stock.
I chose the standard level instead of the cutdown, just for the simple fact that that way the shifter is closer to the steering wheel, I like to track my car. When you choose the standard lever this is still a short shifter because of the pivot point still being farther away from the mounting point of the cable vs the stock shifter.

Did you have yours trimmed or is that the regular shifter height??

It is the shortened version. I do have a shift knob that can be set at different heights. This picture shows it mounted at the high point:

Next option is the RTM talon shift knob.

RTM also sells short shifters for 1g's.

No, they're Fidanza knockoffs, but we checked 'em closely and any that had shitty welds or structural flaws we fixed (though very few needed it).

Sweet! You just need a way to get the shift boot to stay up. I had this similar problem with a previous car!
