I've been trying to get my 90 gsx running. Swapped in a new engine and I'm not getting fuel past the pump, or at least not to the fuel filter. I changed the fuel pump with a used one that was in the backseat. No luck. I also changed the mpi relay. Still nothing changed. When I turn the key I do not hear the fuel pump prime. Checked the wires with a multi meter and they do have power. I'm out of knowledge. I have my 96 rs that is wrecked at the moment, and I was wondering if I could use the pump from it, JUST to see if its the fuel pump that is bad. I don't want to spend $100 on a pump and that not be the problem.

I'm still on stock wiring. Don't really want to rewire it. I've never seen this car run. Bought it with a blown engine. Any other ideas anyone has that might be the problem, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

I've seen that in a couple of forums, not sure what the check connector looks like

Never mind. Its the box on the firewall by the battery that has a black and white wire, right? How do I use this to check the fuel pump? I feel pretty dumb at the moment.

Jump power to that connector and it should turn the fuel pump on.

And you will not hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key on because the engine has to be cranking/running for the fuel pump to run. You can also make sure the fuel pump/mpi relay is kicking on. It's a little gold box on the lower right side of the center counsel under the radio. You can see it if you pull the carpet off the right side. Put a hand on it and turn the key on, it should click once, this is powering the ecu, then crank the engine, it should click again and that is the fuel pump relay. Hope that helps.

Yes it clicks. I changed it out with another one earlier today. And I've heard people say the fuel pump.primes with the key on the acc. Then I've had other people tell me its the cas the primes the pump by sending pulses when you crank the car. Then something about after .6 sec it'll shut the pump off if something isn't right. (I can't fully remember that part).

I applied power to the check connector and I had fuel run into the filter. None of the fuel traveled up to the line that goes to the fuel line. My fuel pressure gauge stayed at zero and fuel creeped out through the top of the filter.

If that caused my fuel pump to work, what is the reason I'm not getting fuel when I try to crank?
And I can't figure out why the fuel didn't go to the rail. Everything is as tight as I can get it.
