1g N/T to turbo swap

Ok so I'm sure some people will tell me just to go buy a turbo and start with that but i prefer to build it myself for the satisfaction effect. Anyways I am slowly preparing to swap my N/T to a turbo and I have a few questions.

1. What is the difference between the 7 bolt and the 6 bolt? I know its the number of bolts that hold the the flywheel on and the one of which is a long block. i am just curious what are the advantages and disadvantages of both.

2. Is the transmission the same or do I need to get a new one? I know it requires a new clutch and I'm sure a new flywheel. So i guess the real question is can i get away with rebuilding the transmission or do i have to go buy a new transmission as well.

You can't use the stock NT F5M22 Tranny, You'll needs an F5M33 tranny, with the large bellhousing.. becouse the turbo model's flywheel and clutch is bigger..
find a broken 1gen FWD turbo DSM.. that's the simpliest way

there a couple different little things about 6bolts and 7bolts. idk where to start haha. but i nkow the head studs are slimmer by like a MM. and the 7bolt pistons are little bit higher compression. the rods on a 7bolt scare me but i know both platfroms are damn stout

With you having a 92.. you should have a NT 4g63 6 bolt.

That is a good base engine for you to start your build on.

A Box of NPR "Turbo" pistons would be a good place to start.

The head, crank and rods are all good to go.

Now outside the engine I am little help.

But a turbo and turbo mani, ECU, and injectors will need changed.

The seven bolts have smaller head studs, as mentioned before. The 7 bolt head is a different deisgn than the 6 bolt, and the intake manifold/intake ports are smaller, along with the throttle body.

You guys are confusing 1g and 2g stuff.

1g 7 bolts heads have the same port size as a 6 bolt head. You can use an f5m22 transmission you just can't use the turbo clutch and flywheel. Good luck getting the NT clutch to hold turbo power. If you want the turbo clutch you will have to get a new transmission. The throttle body is the same size on turbo and NT but they aren't the same design. NT has a built in pipe straight out, turbo does not it's a flat flange. Those are some of the less obvious items. This has been discussed a thousand times before. Do you what you like but it is cheaper to start with a turbo car. When the cars were newer that wasn't the case. I can't think of a good reason to do this now.

To add to Paul's corrections, the 1G 6- and 7-bolt have the same compression between their respective turbo and non-turbo models.

If you're talking about CC of the head your are right. If you're talking about compression ration of the motor this is not correct.
Can you clarify please?

I did the swap fairly easy, parts were cheap to get considering i paid 100 bucks for my long block minus turbo and stuff, the non turbo trans lasted a while then it died.

All 1G turbo models are 7.8:1.

All 1G 2.0L non-turbo models are 9.0:1.
