i recently bought a 2g MAF intake set up for my 92 laser and the more i read about converting the more i get scare.

WIRING-im pretty good with wiring but i realized the guy cut the wiring on the MAF plug in. i dont think this will give me problems cause i can see where the wires come out. so i can match numbers.

INJECTORS- i read i am going to need new 550 or 560cc injectors to match the new MAF i cant really afford them at this time. so is it ok to run the 2gMAF on 450cc injectors?

ECU- do i need to re-program my ECU to accept the 2g MAF?

the more i read the more my pockets hurt and the more frustrated i get:mad:

IF you don't have 550 injectors or a way to tune than don't put the 2g maf on. It will cause the car to run dangerously lean and detonate the engine.

do i have to run just 550cc injectors or can i run something bigger like 750cc or 1000cc? so i have more room for upgrades without having to upgrade my injectors more than once.

Without a way to tune the 550's are the only injector that will keep the a/f ratio's decent. The reason is that the 2g maf makes it around 20-30 percent leaner and the 550's have around 25 percent more fuel than the 450's.

The 2g MAF reports ~20% less airflow and thus the ECU delivers ~20% less fuel. 550cc injectors are ~20% larger than the stock 450cc injectors thus the ECU will deliver ~20% more fuel without knowing it. So the two balance each other out. If you want to run larger injectors, you will NEED a tuning device.

Also, if you have an Automatic trans, you will need to swap in a Manual ECU even before the 2g MAF and 550's. Auto ECU's are programmed for 390cc injectors instead of 450cc like manual 1g's. My question is why put a 2g MAF on your car?

nope im strictly manual. and because the 1g MAF is very restricting and ugly as all get out. i have the money i might as well spend it and help my car out as much as i can. NO i am not one of those "youngsters" that spends his parents money.. Im just a 17 year old kid who likes to go fast. :)

First off the maf translator is not a very good tuning tool. Second, you can't run a 2g maf with the translator. You have to run the gm maf with the translator. With that you won't be limited to just 550 injectors.

yes, i figured that out. this is all new to me... im used to superchargers and carbs.

560cc injectors are the way to go

yes, i did find a set of them for pretty cheap.. do i have to do a tune to run these injectors though?

You can run them with the 2G maf. It is a great combo. I have the same setup (550's though). My A/F is the same as it was when completely stock. I do recommend an upgraded or rewired fuel pump though as you are flowing more.

what brand do you recomend for it?

A walbro 190 or 255. Though, an AFPR is recommended when using the 255 as you FPR is 20 years old and may not hold-up to the pressure from a 255,

Age has very little to do with it. The issue is that the new bigger pump over powers the preset, non-adjustable regulator..... Increasing the volume of fuel the injector passes mechanicly.

I have seen new stock fpr's work fine with 255's. You can expect a diaphragm for that has been used for 20 years to work the same as when it was new. They wear out.

I recommend the 255 and an afpr so your future growth is covered
