1g logger cable...

i made my own non functioning logger cable.
i went by the instructions on from here
does that cable work? and if it does, why isnt mine working?
i have a palm Vx that is in its cradle, and i have the cradle hooked up to the serial port on the cable i made. i dont have the power cable for the sync cradle pluged in. do i need that?

I took the car to a friends place, hooked his logger to the car.. it worked. so it looks like its my cable / setup
i noticed his cable had the same 3 hookups as mine did, and they were plugged into the same pins. anyone have experience with using a palm with their own homemade cable setup?

I haven't made one of these, but it looks like the most obvious thing to check would be the polarity of the diode... if the pinout is correct.
