ok so i have a 91 gst im looking for an exhaust, i've looked at the vrs, megan, and thermal, but havent seen any pics of them on a fwd, i like how the apexi n1 looks but its only for an awd, does anyone know how the apexi sounds compared to vrs and thermal. and can anyone post pics of 1g's with exhaust. i've looked on the forum and found this but cant find any pics besides for the one in this thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/199251-1g-fwd-3-exhaust.html

My FWD has a 3" Thermal system. I bought it used as a turbo-back setup from a guy about 4 years ago for $300.

What I ran into was that the system I bought was actually for a '90-'91 car, so the muffler didn't come out in the right place at my rear bumper. To fit my car properly the muffler would've needed to be swept further to the passenger's side of the car. I also had to manufacture some bracketry.

I'm not sure why Thermal built two different systems for the '90-'91 and '92-'94 cars- most shops simply build one that fits all 1G's. I wasn't worried....I hacked the bottom of the bumper in a presentable manner.

Wish I had a recent pic for you, but I don't.

Here's a good thread that will give you an idea how different exhaust systems sound (some of the links on the earlier posts are outdated and don't work):

I just went with the dejon Exhaust it was cheap and i was able to pick my own muffler.

cool cool, yea i was thinking about getting a vrs but for 800 i can get something made custom, if i go that way im thinking about getting either a magnaflow muffler or an apexi n-1 and have my friend fab me up the piping. what muffler is on the thermal?

the turbo back well at slow boy the 3" turbo back is 800, this is 499.99 + 219.99 (downpipe) + $64.99 (testpipe)= 784.97+ shipping

I you were speaking of the catback only. If you include the downpipe and test pipe along with the rest of the exhaust it's going to be about $800-1000 whichever way you go on all name brands.

The reason they build different rear sections for the 1gA and 1gB cars is because the Talon and Eclipse have a section in the rear bumper that is molded for the exhaust tips to exit at the corner of the passenger side of the rear bumper. It's hard to explain.

I actually have the VRS 3" turbo back with 3" Magnaflow hi-flow cat on my GST and it ran me about $850 with shipping. The fitment was great, minus needing new hangers welded on for $10 at the local muffler shop. It's only Aluminized but it has lasted 2 Northern Indiana winters with no visible rusting of the system. As for the sound, it's nice and low, not at all ricer. I highly recommend them and I plan on getting another one for my AWD.

I completely understand....it just seems wasteful that they would build two different tail sections when all the other companies incorporate the 1Ga and 1Gb exhausts into one system.
