1g FWD exhaust guys chime in

I'm looking to do a 3'' exhaust on my car soon. Ive looked underneath it already, and it seems like the 3'' piping is going to be hell to fit above the rear "axle". Have any of you FWD people ran the 3'' exhaust under the rear "axle" ?

Id really like to see some under car pics if anyone has them. I know I just spent 45 mins on here searching and found nothing im looking for.

My plans are to do a 3'' catback, with no cat, and maybe a resonator and 3'' flowmaster out the back. Ive already got the PR 3'' downpipe on the car also.

The 3" Thermal R&D system on my '92 TSi FWD goes over the axle....and yes, it's a tight squeeze. Normally I'd accompany this with a plethora of photographs, but it's 8* outside right now- nothing's making me move from my house.

I have 3" exhaust on my FWD. It goes over the axle. Tight fit definately, But well worth it. I did some reading before buying mine as well. There are a few people on here with it underneath. It will definately hang very low. Most likely scraping speed bumps, on steep hils, etc. Go Over top for sure!

When i had my 90gst, i had a shop build me a 3" catback for less than $100 plus muffler. it went over the axle and had good bends(for shopbent). I urge you to get a "straight through" muffler instead of the chambered Flowmasters.

Do a 3inch side exit that exits right infront of the rear passenger side tire. That is what I had done. A huge magnaflow cat, 3in magnaflow muffler all fit under there there also.

Is it legal in california to have your exhaust exit before your tire? i know by me thats gets cops attention pretty quick

The inspection manual (in PA at least, sorry I know this doesn't help you 100%, but most states follow this) says that the exhaust must exit "outside of the passenger compartment"

Ok Over the axle it is. Im just not sure if the local exhaust guy can make bends like that. I guess its time to find a new hella cheap exhaust shop...

I was more or less looking for pics of 1g exhaust under the car, as well as opinions just to get some different ideas from those who have had custom exhausts made.

Are the Flowmasters really that bad? Im only running a 14b, and maybe in the future a 16g, so I want just a little backpressure seeing as the 14b creeps real bad with the open 3'' downpipe now.
