Hello I have a question, I recently did the vacuum delete on my 94 TSI. And i was going to be ordering a EGR blockoff plate, now my question is, Is there a plate that just screws into were the EGR valve went? I Dont want to get a plate that i have to put between the EGR and block, I just want a plate that will take the place of it and block everything off so i dont have to put the actual EGR valve over the plate. Does that make sense? Links/pics if possible thanks!

What i did was tig welded the egr up so that i new i had no boost leaks there at all. Even with a block off plate you will have a gasket that one day might leak. The other thing i did was ran my boost line to the intake manifold by the coil pack. On the side of the manifold right under the coil pack is a pipe plug and i took it out and put my boost gage there. This is the shortest route from the gauge to the motor so you dont have a bunch of line in the engine bay and with the fittings you know its not leaking. I can post pics if you want me to.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I am wondering if anyone knows if I would pass Ontario emissions with this done? My car is awd so it would just be curb idle.

Haha if you used tin to make a blockoff gasket it would melt right away. Tin melts at 450 degrees, aluminum melts at 1220 degrees. I got a STM plate for free but I have yet to install it (lazy), I'm just running the EGR valve with nothing connected to it.

Or just by the sexy STM Block off plate. Its called engine dress up. And for less than 20$ for something that supports an oh so damn good vendor. I dont mind rocking it. Convenience really. Its all about time > cost.

Something that costs 15$... And I 15$ or however much they are in my paypal... and literally nothing else to spend it on. And took 5 minutes to install. VS welding it shut. Needing to own a welder, know how to use a welder, having gas and wire which arent cheap. Or making a block off. Which takes more than 5 minutes.

Would take the still cheap, better looking, quicker way out.

If you are a cheap ass and dont care if your engine bay looks like shit, then cool I dont care what your bay looks like either.

tin melts at 450 degrees
OH, for HELL's sake! Doesn't anybody here know that a "tin can" is a container, made out of sheet steel and coated with tin so not to corrode and contaminate the contents that are inside the can?

Yes..

Tin melts at 450 degrees,
Aluminum melts at 1200 degrees

...but

Steel melts at 2400 degrees! ... I don't think that small of exhaust being ported through the EGR is gonna be that hot to melt steel. For, if it was, no EGR valve could exist in that hot of condition. Thus, they're made of aluminum.

Time to get some education!

Yes, these days, but they used to actually be made of tin, hence the name. Most have been made of aluminum since the 50's. Metal roofs were called tin roofs, because they were made of tin. They aren't anymore. It's all alloys now. My old house I grew up in had a pure tin roof. It was very soft metal.

I cringe when I see people use anything less than 1/4" thick to make a flange of sorts. That's the way to go if you want your car to look homebrew. But those who care any bit about looks like the sexy look of the STM one with the countersunk screws. But I support it just because mine was free.

That's what Canadian coins are made out of..tin. And a magnet sticks to them.

I'd say it's more like galvanized (zinc coated) steel is used now..a lot cheaper than tin coated.

I just redid my roof on my garage this summer and the metal flashing around the edge is galvanized steel strips....but it's still roll sheet steel.

But, that's okey since I went out to a yard this summer, found a bunch of 1.8 DSMs that had blockoff plates and snagged the lot for a few bucks.

Not helping guys!

I repeat I am wondering if anyone knows if I would pass Ontario emissions with this done? My car is awd so it would just be curb idle.

No one can tell you one way or another. We can't make predictions of the mixture of gases in your exhaust over the internet. Some places will fail you for emissions by visual means even if you pass an actual test.
