I just installed a new clutch pedal assembly, what a pain in the a**. When I first installed it the brake and clutch were even after driving some time the clutch pedal has dropped about 1/4-1/2 below the brake. I bleed the system so I know there is no air and checked for leaks, when I go under the dash, if I pull on the pedal slightly it returns and the pedals are even. Any ideas why this is happening? could it be the spring? or is this normal? Oh I have an act 2600 with new clutch master/ slave cyc, s/s clutch line and tranny

The previous pedal did the same thing just before it split in two, even after being welded together

yes i have tried to adjust it. just doesn't seem to want to go back to normal postion..what ever that is with a act 2600 :confused:. this has to be the most costly mod i have done to my car to date.:mad:

not to mention all the countless hrs spent fixing and replacing all these parts

Is the master cylinder pushrod on the last thread?
 
Has the nut holds the lever on the end of the assymbly backed out causing to stip out the end of the rod? Hopefully you know what I'm talking about it's kinda hard to explain. If you can, try and get a ratchet up there and pull your clutch pedal up to the cruise control switch(all the way up) and see if you can't tighten that nut up any more, I believe it is a 17mm or mabye 19mm. Good luck
 
i should be able to tighten it some more, seeing it is a new pedal...i know just the bolt u are taliking about, it is a pita to get to..LOL
 
The adjusting rod has nothing to do with the pedal returning to its stop. If it is not going all the way up the your return spring isn't doing its job. I don't have a 2G so I can't tell you what to do specifically but on my 1G I cut off the stock return coil spring and installed a straight tension spring instead. My pedal now returns all the way up to its stop every time.

Thanks 4pistons. From the beginning I thought it was the spring. Could u tell me how u did it, I am really interested in knowing. Details would be nice if you can remember. I have a 1g not a 2g.

Sorry, I don't know why I thought it was a 2G. :confused: If you look at the pedal assembly in the manual it shows that the non-turbo assembly uses a straight tension spring on the clutch and the turbo uses a complicated bracket and coiled spring. I don't know why there is a difference. I cut off the bracket that holds the coiled return spring and bought a tension spring from the hardware store. The hole is already in your clutch pedal and the eye that it hooks to is already under your dash. Simple.

But... the only way to cut off the bracket is when the pedal assembly is out. I suppose you could just remove the spring and not worry about the bracket. I wanted the bracket out because it then allows better access to the clutch adjustment rod.
