I know that this has been covered before and I have searched and read the other threads on crushing or doing the dodge garage mod. Although as I read through them I get more opinions then what is best for my setup. So I would like to ask a few questions. I am looking to get a uncrushed bov at the moment just so I can start new

I am running a big16g and pushing 17-19psi

My question is though...should I crush it and do the mod..or just do one or the other?
I would rather have a woosh sound then an annoying sputter. From what I understand doing the Dodge Garage Mod makes it have more of a woosh? Anyone speak from experience? But then again I will take performance over sounds anyday. I just want to know what would be the best for my car in general. :thumb:

HIGH BOOST is not FAST RELEASE. To run high boost you are DISABLING THE QUICK-RELEASE FEATURE, so you leave the bottom nipple disconnected.

If you hook it up as you did in your photo, it will work exactly like a stock valve.
Ok.. then I dont need to "t" into anything.. you had mentioned earlier in the thread to "t" into my boost controller...

You had asked where the lower nipple attached to, and I told you.

For stock operation, tee into the boost controller line before the controller and run that to the lower nipple. For high-boost operation, remove that line, put a bolt in the hose, and leave the nipple open.

actually my preference is the crushed valve. BUT DO NOT JUST CRASH THE CRAP OUT OF IT AND THEN B!7CH ABOUT IT! you need to crush in VERY small amounts until it holds for the pressure you are wanting.

weird honking noises, compressor surge, not opening at all, can all be caused by an over crushed BOV. but if you take your time and just crush very small amounts you can up the holding power and you still get a fairly quick release.

the dodge garage mod works 'good' but is actually the faster less work mod then taking the time to crush a tiny bit, and do pressurized boost leak testing until you get the valve to JUST hold at your max boost.

Crushing is just a band-aid that increases spring pressure and lessens the valve's travel- effectively making the valve perform more-poorly overall. You're still sending pressure from the charge piping to the middle chamber, which is still trying to force the valve open from the bottom.

The only way you can truly get a 1G valve that will hold any amount of boost is to do the Dodge Garage Mod. Saves the guesswork of "did I crush it enough?" or "did I crush it too much?"

the DGM simply bypasses a feature that was designed into the stock BOV. look both of these are work arounds not fixes. doing either of them can have positive effects and negative effects. probably looking at your goals and making a decision with those in mind is each persons best bet. but sometimes the answer is not a modded 1g BOV also. MY preference for getting a little more boost out of one of these is slightly crushing it. but the DGM will hold more peak pressure and still be usable. if you crush a BOV enough to hold say 50PSI you will ruin it. it will never release on short shifts and will not have enough travel to dump all the PSI effectively even when it does pop off.

so look at the builds goals and decide if it is possible with a slightly modded 1g BOV or if aftermarket is required. BTW, it is possible to slightly crush and also do the DGM. is it worth while? again highly debatable.

At least the Dodge Garage Mod is reversible in case it doesn't perform like you want it to by simply hooking the lower nipple up to a boost source. If you crush a valve too far and ruin it, it's now junk.
