1G Blacked Out Headlights

I was wondering how to paint your headlights on a 1G. Well i have popups so whatever they are called. Is all you need to do is sand them with real fine sand paper and then paint it? do you need clear paint as well. I want to paint mine black but can you use any color. and what about painting it and then painting three circles a different color. need advice and something to do while i wait for my headers to be shipped.

and im talking about painting the OUTSIDE of the lights.

Here is my old 1g. I used the old blackout plastic covers. These days the VHT nightshade paint works awesome check into that.

Not completely blacked out, but a little different. This was done by just taping off and spraying a coat of Duplicolor paint. Lasted over a year so far.

They kept falling off in the summer, so I removed them. But, if I bought the better double-sided tape, I'm sure they would've been fine.

so if i paint them completely, would the turn signals shine through?

Yes with one or two light coats it will still allow light to pass through.
