i just had a can of black spary paint laying around and i just went to town. just go light at first and go as dark as you want and just spary alot of clear over them when it's dry.

not so sure i dig the 3 screws holding the filter, leaves a lot of room for crap to get into you engine if/when the filter flexes or warps from the heat or getting bumped into things. i would at least put in 6 more screws... or if you can find something to cut a ring out of. like the part of the filter can that you took off and bolt/nut that over the top of the filter so that you know the filter is held tight agenst the MAF that would be much better IMO.

okay well i didn't paint them on the car im not a complete idiot, and then way i have my filter it won't be sucking in warm rad air i turned the car on and let it got up to temp and then placed the filter where i seen the coolest temperature i used a digital thermometer and thats where it was.

You got it partially right. The best way to get cooler air to the intake would be to place it behind the headlight and make a box to block off the heat from the engine bay.

You might have found the "lowest temperature at idle" but I doubt that you were using your thermometer while you were cruising down the highway which is where it matters. You want the filter in the path of incoming air. Yours is tucked out of the air stream. You had a good idea, you just didn't think though everything.

Another thing to consider is because you removed the mounting hardware from the filter there is a chance that it will be moving around while you are driving. So even if you put it in the best spot it might move. Also it might be a source of vibrations, odd noises while driving over rough roads/bumps/etc.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the feedback and I will try it like that for a bit the car should be on the road soon then I'll make a box see if there is a a change. I want to know how to make some more power for cheap I work a shity job atm so I can't spend alot since my money goes towards gas and insurance

For the tails, do you have a picture of the brand of spray paint you used? Also, did you, by chance, do any cleaning of the outside of the lens before you applied the paint? I wonder if some clear primer would also help in the process as well.

Don't use spray paint, that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.. Use VHT nightshade, and a nice clear and it won't be so dark looking since 1g's already have pretty dark tail lights from the factory. Also, why not just go to autozone and buy the universal piping and making it a REAL CAI, just because you moved it to a spot where it has cooler air in no way makes it a CAI.

VHT nightshade doesn't get them to look the same though. VHT creates a more "smoked" effect where as spray paint completely blacks them out. I used spray paint and I think it looks really good. Just use a high gloss black and then go over it with clear. Much better than VHT and my tail lights still shine right through the paint

Not to mention with the filter right there it is pulling heat from the trans as well. When you checked temps at idle the trans was probably cold. Make a box like posted above and then move on to turbo intake cam. Also Hard piping doesnt have the ribs like the stock and that allows better airflow. The stock piping causes restriction. Also move up to 2 1/2 exhaust tubing and get rid of the cat. You will get a little more from doing those things but as mentioned theres only so much you can get from n/t.
