So i am well into my auto to manual swap on my 92 talon TSI AWD pedals installed axles out getting ready to pull the auto trans. Just a few things to mention and a quick question. For those of you thinking about doing this swap i say GO FOR IT! This has been a great learning experience and may be beneficial for other fellow DSMers. I know everyone says oh don't do it its a PITA and its way expensive, well i have proven at least one of those things wrong LOL so far i have every part for my swap minus axles ( passengers side was all grenadey so I'm changing drivers and passengers ) my manual starter and shift boot :) and I am only in $405.00!!! Thanks to pulling all the cables, shifter, master cylinder, slave cylinder etc. out of a donor junkyard car for $40 bucks then bought a clutch, flywheel, trans, t-case, and rear end off a DSMer from this site. So see by the time i get completely done with the swap i should be in about $520.00. Auto to manual done right on a budget!! :thumb:
And now for my quick question i have a socketed eprom ecu in perfect order however it is currently setup for an AUTO setup with bigger injectors and etc. ( Which are no longer on the car ) can i just get a new chip burned to stock specs only a manual or do i need to get mahself a manual ECU??

don't forget to pull the little ring out of the crankshaft before putting the flywheel on its like a hub eccentric ring for the flex plate. MY mistake the first time i did one LOL what a mess

Yeah i have been reading over and over the VFAQ :thumb: but thanks for the friendly reminder.

Can anyone assist with my ECU question? Can i use my auto EPROM as is or get a new chip for it or do i have to scrap all together?

awd you also have to swap the rear end and transfer case

The ECU doesn't care whether you have an auto or manual transmission.

I have always ran the manual ECU code in my automatic 1G's; it doesn't matter much either way, as the auto transmission is controlled by the TCU not the ECU, and they don't have control over one another, they just do their own separate things.

So I'll need:

5 Speed Transmission
Transfer case. 21 spline (1g AWD)
Rear end.
Front shafts.
Clutch pedal assembly. (Master cylinder lines and gaskets.)
Brake pedal assembly? (I heard they have to be swapped too. Or are they one piece?)
Clutch Slave. (Couldn't I use the one on the junk yard transmission?)
Shifter assembly. (Shifter, Cables and Boot.)
Flywheel and bolts.

Do yourself a favor and buy new slave and master cylinders. They're like 50 bucks together on ebay. Slave cylinders are ALWAYS shot (I have like 6-8 parts cars, and the slaves are shot on all of them), even if you think it looks decent it's not and you'll waste a ton of time dinking around trying to get your clutch to work right. I ruined a transmission when my slave cylinder crapped out on me (ground it really bad into 5th and broke a slider or something). I don't think I've ever owned a DSM that had a good slave cylinder (until I replaced them).

Indeed but he has an ECU tuned to an auto motor with bigger injectors. Assuming that he swapped back in the stock auto injectors. I would imagine it would be better to reflash the ECU to stock auto. Not manual. Unless you plan on upgrading to manual injectors. You run your manual ECU in your auto. Does that have any effect or your A/F?

True that. I just got a timing belt kit on the way. And as posted in my topic in the A/T section, I'm screwed. So I'll have to do the swap because I don't want the A/T problems. Now to find the parts. I'll be doing what Killian did. Mostly shopping in the yard.
