what is the difference between the 1g and 2g awd setups? i want to use the awd out of a 1g or 2g for my colt and i need to know which setup is better. as is im running a 1g 4g63 motor.

Gear ratios are the same. 91-92 have a stronger 3rd gear hub, but the 3rd shift fork is known to break at the pin. To remedy that, just have it drilled and double pinned.

95+ have a double syncro 2nd gear, but the 3rd gear hubs are known to explode around 400hp. Ironically they have a stronger 3rd shift fork, and it wont fit the bigger hub.

I believe both transfer cases are about the same strength, but don't quote me on that. I do know that early 1g's had a different spline count on the input(22vs23)

The 1g 3 bolt rear end is weaker, but luckily 93+ got the 4 bolt rear.

2ga and 2gb transfer cases have to be matched to the appropriate 2ga and 2gb transmission.

Auto and manual rear diffs are different, but you can interchange 2ga and 2gb.

Hopefully someone else can add more information especially about 1g's.

Also 90/91 are a 3 bolt rearend.which is more prone to breaking than the 92-99 4 bolt year. But there are some miracle stories out there with the 3 bolt holding 500 hp.

Also if you going with a 5 speed make sure you get the 5 speed rearend. The auto rear ratio is different.
