After a couple hours of searching and reading articles i have come to the conclusion that most dsmers hate 1g abs. I have broken one of my front wheel studs on my 94 fwd gst. Since i am already replacing the subframe this weekend i have decided to repace the stude as well. Unfortunatly even though i have read a few artices that say they are easly removed there is no apparent way to remove the studs without taking out the bearings or CUTTING OFF THE ABS SENSOR PLATE :notgood:. So if any one can give me a tip or knows something that i dont please let me know what can be done to remove the stude and replace it.

I've done it before. Bang it out the back. I don't know why you're cutting things or pulling the bearing. Autozone sells nice replacements.

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the hub and disassemble things to replace it or cut off the plate. I'd say it's a good time to remove your ABS and get rid of all that junk ABS stuff.

Its been a while, but now i remember the dust shield being there.

You can bend it way back to give you room to get the old studs out and the new ones in there. I"m 100% sure i didn't remove anything except the wheel to do it.

Thanx for the feed back. Unfortunately some of you understand what I am talking about and the rest must have no idea how the ABS system is set up on the front wheel drives. After doing 2 weeks of research I have found that the only way to replace wheel studs on an ABS set up is to either remove the wheel bearings or to cut of the ABS sensor plate. Poor design on DSM's part but that's just life. Yes if there is no ABS then it is very simple to just tap the studs out. The correct information is not being given out by countless members of different forums due to the fact that not many DSM's had ABS apparently. If anyone reads this and has had this problem or has had to remove the wheel bearings, your input would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Mikael i work at Autozone and yes your right we do sell nice replacements but i dont think you have ABS or you would understand my concern.

91 GSX, factory ABS with an open rear end.

i did not cut or remove anything other than the wheel. maybe i'm just that awesome

As I said, it's probably a great time to eliminate the ABS. If not you'll have to disassemble things. There is a write-up around somewhere, but you'll have to search for it' It's been a long time since I've seen it.

For those who do not understand what the constraint is here, there is a solid metal cover over the back of the wheel studs. It wraps around the side with grooves in it for the ABS sensor. With the hub on and assembled the cover cannot be removed and the wheel studs cannot be accessed.

Yeah, eventually i will eliminate the ABS when I convert to gsx calipers. How hard is it to remove the ABS and what do i need for everything to work properly without.

In the short term you can just unplug the ABS relay. I ran like that for almost 2 years without issue.

To eliminate the ABS system entirely you need a proportioning valve from a non-abs car (the non-abs has 6 connections instead of 4. Located on the drivers side of the firewall). You also need the 2 lines from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve and the 2 lines from the prop valve to the front calipers. You can reuse your rear lines. If you can find a donor car pull what you can. You probably won't be able to get the lines to the calipers. The rest you can bend easily from new line.

You just pull your own lines, proportioning valve and the ABS block and install the new prop valve and lines. If you want you can also cut off the ABS plate that is causing you trouble right now as well as yank the magnetic sensor.

BTW, you'll enjoy the 2 piston calipers. They are a good improvement, but you don't need to change anything to do with the brake lines so that shouldn't stop you from eliminating the ABS system sooner.

Well that sux ### i just finished stripping down my parts car and had it hald off this morning. I didnt even think to take all that off. It was a non ABS car to boot. I guess ill just remove tha relay for now. Thanx for tha info!
