1G 4G63 N/T 7 Bolt to 6 Bolt Swap

Ok so i have a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with the 4g63 non turbo. The motor had a rod bearing installed backwards and it spun it. The motor was a 7 bolt non turbo motor. So i ordered a used motor to replace it and the motor had come from a 1994 Eclipse just like mine.

So it turns out that the motor i got is a 6 bolt motor not a 7 bolt motor. So this is good i figure because the six bolt is the best from what i hear.

So now they go to install it and they realize that its a 6 bolt and there is no flywheel on the six bolt motor. Also they say the Exedy clutch i have on the 7 bolt won't fit on a 6 bolt flywheel.

So i was wondering if the clutch will need changed too? and what is a good clutch to get if i plan on about 230hp with the cams, fuel, and bolt-ons.
 
For the clutch i think the same clutch would fit cause if you look on exedy site the gave the same part number for a 6 or 7 bolt . Also i have a frien whit a evo 2 (7bolt) and he have the same clutch as me (6 bolt), I know mine is awd but exedy sell the same clutch for any year of fwd 4g63 dsm.
 
It depends on what transmission you are using. If you are running the non turbo transmission than it will work with the 6 bolt non turbo flywheel, if you are using a turbo transmission than the clutch will not work. You will want to consider a turbo transmission if you aren't already. The non turbo clutch will not hold up to the power of the turbo engine very well.
 
Ok well i think i have a non turbo tranny but it was rebuilt and i run royal purple oil in it and haven't had any trouble with it. The motor i have that is 6 bolt won't be getting a turbo quite yet till i get the money and that will be at least a year. So i just need it to hold the power of a non turbo motor. My old 7 bolt had low compression pistons for a turbo but didn't have a turbo and it dynoed at 215 so i figured the 6 bolt with the higher compression pistons should produce a bit more since with no turbo more compression is good right?
So with the same upgrades as the other motor i figured maybe 230? anyways- its bored .20 over, i have a cold air intake, hi flow MAF, port/polish, BC272 cams, Megan Racing header, test pipe, aftermarket fuel rail and injectors and pump, balance shafts eliminated, and catback exhaust (from the test pipe, no cat)

230Hp from an NT with only bolt-on mods? :ohdamn:
 
idk if i'm wrong correct me but its not just bolt ons its bored .20 over and port/polish and larger fuel injectors and stuff and cams too. oh and i meant at the crank because the old motor with lower compression put a little north of 200 out at the crank. i know i won't probably get more than 200 to the wheels... But i just wan't a car that's fun to drive right now. although i would love awd turbo i can't justify it right now with my eclipse being my daily driver.

Ok everyone the motor swap is complete. Well minus the BC cams those are gonna wait until after winter till i mess with them because i'm gonna get new valve springs and do it all right the first time. Anyways there will be new pictures soon!
