I have a garbage 1993 1.8.L eclipse gs with under 100 horses with a dead motor. Does a 4g63 bolt right in and work like nothing happened? I think the swap has been done before. Also, how well will the fwd tranny hold up to like 400 horses if i upgrade? Will I need a new drivetrain? Will fwd be able to put the power down well enough? What are widest tires this car can handle? How well will it corner?

And how much can I get a 4g63 6 bolt motor from a junkyard for with the Turbo? Is the swap Even worth it? Am I better off buying a 2g or swapping the motor financially speaking?

Also, does odb II work in a 93 eclipse gs 1.8l fwd?

Would be useful for engine diagnostics with the android Bluetooth adapter. And i know the swap can be done but I'm basically asking if its worth it

No it doesn't just bolt in. Lots of extras would be required.

400 horsepower? no.

Yes you will need a new drivetrain if you expect it to work wel.

Power down? Thats subjective. All FWD are open diff from the factory.

OBDII. No.

The diffrences have been discussed over and over and over for the last 20 years. It is always easier to start with a turbo platform in the first place.

So basically I'm better off throwing my eclipse away and buying a 2g awe than trying to swap a 4g63?

I don't care if its awd or not, in fact, my eclipse is 500 pounds lighter than a stock 2g awd. If my friend's 400 horsepower Acura RSX works fine with fwd then I'm all for it if it works. If my tranny works with a 4g63 6 bolt Turbo engine and doesn't get raped by a little power, I really could care less about awe

I just wanna know whether or not I should send my current eclipse to a scrapyard or try the swap anyway. How much would the swap cost assuming I have motor inhand?

As in bolt in you, what exactly are looking to know?

It pretty much does "bolt in". But there are a few ways you can go about doing the swap!
I swapped a 90 6bolt into my 93 talon DL (1.8L model). And it's not nearly as hard as people make it out to be. Ask anyone that's done it, because they will tell you the truth.

I'm really not too sure if the 1.8L tranny will bolt up to the 6 bolt.
I have a motor and tranny so I swapped them out together.

So the tranny from my 1.8 will work fine with a 4g63? That's what I really care about. And basically the other Guy said that 400 horses would break my current fwd tranny?

Hold on, an awd tranny or some other tranny? What tranny should i look for then? Cause if i can easily swap a tranny that can handle 400 horses than ill go for it.

Im Not sure if the 1.8L tranny will bolt right up! I didn't take the changes in finding out, i had a motor and tranny so swapped them together. And doing an AWD conversion on a 1g isn't nearly as easy as it is on a 2g. Not something many people attempt!

I would use a transmission off a 4g63, unless you find clear proof that its possible to use the 1.8L transmission.

This may help a little. (Alittle detailed, plus i think he used the n/t harness and it was a 4g63 n/t to start)

I faintly remember seeing a write-up, i thought was from him, but can not find it. It goes into great detail for any n/t to turbo swap.

This stuff may help, but if you don't understand something from it just ask!

YES... I Found it! :)

Money wise, it Most commonly would be cheaper to find a turbo model, but in my case it wasn't so I went with the swap and LOVE the fact I have a DL converted over. I REALLY want to attempt it once more but do it better, as this was a first for me and I had to learn as I went.
Now that I know, I would go back and do everything PERFECTLY! :)

Get rid of the eclipse and find a stock gst or gsx. You will be better off and probably cost less in the long run.

You will want the turbo tranny so you can have a clutch that will hold the power (though you will have zero traction with that much power). You will also want to swap to rear disk brakes so you can stop. It will be worth it if you can find a rusted out/trashed GST with a good drivetrain.

No need for ODB2, the ECU would not work. Just get DSMLink as part of your conversion.

You should be able to find an Turbo FWD or AWD near Virginia so you can avoid the swap.

I am clost to you and I drove my buddy up 3.5 hours to get his laser AWD up in PA. scrap that one and get a turbo eclipse/talon/plymoth. less work and more drive time till the next break down.

But do what you want honestly, it seams like you are kinda pressed on doing the swap. But if you get the motor get the trans also. If you are going to do this swap, pm me I have a buddy in pa that has just about everything you will need. he is only about 1.5 hours .75 if you drive a DSM LOL. (that was a joke)
