1999 GSX Boost Problem

Ok guys here's the deal. My friend has a 99 GSX that is bone stock. The problem with his car is that it wont boost after 4k. When he gets on it, it will pull and when it gets to 4k it wont boost anymore. It feels like the boost just falls off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It can be a lot of things and you're not giving us any details except for "4K", the cause can be bad turbo, boost leaks or the typical T25 running out of air. More details are needed, especially what the boost gauge is telling you in relations to rpm. If he is truly completely stock, it would be pretty hard to troubleshoot without a boost gauge, lend him your gauge so you can post more details and run some tests.

Has the car always been like this or did it just start? The stock turbo does fall off in boost up top but more like after 5500 ish.

He's had to car for about a week. You can hear the turbo spool to about 4K and then you cant hear it anymore. With mine I can hear it all the way to 7K. We think its the turbo. He's buying a new turbo and front mount anyway so he'll see if thats the problem.

well im new here so whats up anyways i have a pretty much stock gsx about 80k on it with a stock turbo recently my car did the same thig but 1st it started to blow out white smoke im almost positive its the turbo it doesnt go past 4k let alone boost

I had a problem with my SMIC to UICP connection before. It would boost up normally but at 3500K, it will just lose boost. Check all connections twice.

If he wants, might as well run a boost leak test.

Well guys the problem was definately the turbo. Had it taken apart and one of the fins completely is missing and one is cracked all the way down. Sorry no pics but the solution to the problem... Upgrade Time!
