ok I got this 1997 Eclipse spyder GS-T shell, the previous owner removed the engine and the FWD 5 speed transmission basically just leaving the axles, all the wiring harness, radiator, fuse box, battery, hoses, ect still under the hood...I have been doing plenty of research, googling and stuff but have not quite found a specific answer to my question.

I just want to know if I can put a non turbo 4g63 like the one on this link; (copy and paste)

Mitsubishi Motor JDM 4G63 Non Turbo 7 Bolts Engine : eBay Motors (item 390166550846 end time Mar-16-10 20:29:40 PDT)

because I do not know if there is really a difference on the wiring harness, motor mounts, hoses...I mean its a 7 bolt engine, and for my understanding that would be a 2g motor, 6 bolts are from the 1s gen eclipses, right?

so is this a direct fit?

***I just want to get the car running again***

CHEAP and EASY avoiding any complicated modifications...Thanks!

Yes it would be a direct fit, but why would you want to put a non turbo motor in there? If it's because of financial issues, the turbo motor is only like 500 bucks more. Look in your local classifieds and I bet you'll find one for cheap. Oh I forgot I'm pretty sure you would have to swap the ecu too.

ok thanks...but yeah I mainly bought the car for parts on my 99 spyder like swaping doors driver side fender, ect, because I was hit by some ido!t that didnt see me and jumped into my lane...also I wanted to make my car Power mirrors so Im swaping them too...Rear discs conversion...mines are drums...yup, oh yeah and the dude had the Light "roll" bar on it, so am taking that off too...LOL anyways

like I said I just want to get the car running again, turbo or non turbo...Sell it, get the money I spent on it and make some profit while am at it

oh and another thing

Click on that Ebay link again (^ my first post ^)

and tell me if I can get the non turbo engine with the AWD auto transmission...would that be ok?? they dont have FWD available...and the GS-T was...Would there be any problems when it comes to installing these?????

Let me know Thanks!

Well if the other car isnt 4wd then its possible but you will need to do some custom work i mean you will need the 4wd gas tank and a couple more parts and another thing why would you even try to put a auto awd on a car that used to be manual i mean i understand that your on a budget but all this will exceed your budget cause to my understandings if the car was a manual car and now you are trying to convert it to a awd auto then you will also need the wiring harness and ecu also like talon2gb said why would you want to swap a non turbo motor to a car that came with a turbo motor i mean i know you can find one somewhere just look in the right place.....! Good luck with the build and if you encounter any problems just post then and well try to help you

I think you would be better off swapping whatever parts you needed over to the GST shell than to put them on that GS

ok cool...Ill keep looking around for the engine it had before, even if I do have to spend a lil more money to get it right the first time when installing it...:thumb:

if You or anybody know or find such engine w/5speed FWD transmission 4 sale around, please contact me...I appreciate the help, advise and opinions

Thanks again

check on Ebay, Craiglist and your local junk yards. i recommend getting exactly what was in the car the first time. it will save you lots of money in the long run trying to put something in there that wasnt meant to be there. you will have too much to change out to get the car running. trust me, i found out the hard way with my first eclipse

Cookmeup272,

Nah am good..my 99 spyder GS is in Mint condition compared to the 97 GS-T, my 4g64 only has 75k on it, all black leather interior...ect, I wouldnt get rid of it for anything in the world...is like I told my girl...if you would ever Total my car..I rather it be my other car 2009 Nissan Altima...NOBODY drives my spyder...and if anything would happen to me and I cant drive it home...I would just get it TOWED to me LOL

I am sort of in the same boat, I was looking at getting a engine online and from what I have read its best to just stick with what came in there from the factory, it will save you money and time in the long run for sure.
