I have a 2000 jeep cherokee XJ with 240k on it...guy just called me and wants to do an even trade for his

1997 GST 250k , says its been rebuilt, 2nd owner only!..Leather interior, runs good,
upgraded turbo,

NEGATIVE..only thing he said was the rear main seal might be leaking.....

Im gonna go take a look ....What are somethings I should be aware of when buying a used GST, this one doesnt look like its been raced, pretty stock and his father owned it before him..

THANKS:rocks:

Sounds like maintenance hell.

Check it out though. It could still be in great shape like he says. Just know you're doing a trans job before you're even driving it. You can't just drive around on a bad rear main seal.

Rear main seal simple fix, anything that looks bad or in doubt of its a used car so youll probably invest money in it either way.

"Upgraded turbo", but never raced? Uhuh. Now it may be possible that he needed a new one, and got an "upgraded" one for the same price or less and threw it on. Similarly, I may possibly be the President.

If you're looking for a project car, check it out -- make sure it sounds good in person, no rust in all the usual places, and so forth.

If you're looking for a straight up trade for a DD, driveable and worry-free right away, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Why, oh why, would somebody go from a DSM to a Jeep, unless he was looking to unload this car FAST.

Hey now... I have a dsm AND a jeep :thumb: ones for the malls and ones for the crawls :)

Just kidding I hate the mall...

I'd go over it really well, still fixing things from mine that I half looked over... now been a year later

Sounds like a bad deal, Sell your jeep for cash and buy something you actually want, not something your being offered. It wouldn't hurt to go look at it though, just go threw it really well.

The rear main seal is the tip of the iceberg. Dont do it unless the body, electrical, and tranny are in very very good condition and you have money to spend on the engine.
