I'm having problems with my spark plugs not firing on two cylinders (1 & 4), I've ruled out the coil pack and the power transistor by swapping in my spares from a 1G.

I'm now looking at the Cam Angle Sensor as the culprit, what I was wondering is when I pull the CAS plug the car dies, if the CAS is the problem wouldn't unplugging it not make a difference?

Im having a similar problem. Seems two newbies have to talk abt this one haha. WHen i got my 95 gst it didnt have a CAS but yet it still managed to run. which, i really dont understand. so if im not crazy, and you can run the car without the CAS, then you may have another underlying problem.

the '95's came with the cam sensor, they are located behind the cam gears, unlike the 1g's and 97-99.

Ya, unless your car is non turbo which it isn't, you'll have a CAS, it's just hidden. I've actually tracked the problem back to the coil pack, but I think the connector is bad on the harness side. I'm getting weird OHM readings.

Well I just did the 1G CAS conversion and now it's all messed up, with the AEM EMS the car won't start, with the stock ECU hooked up the car will fire but won't stay running. Also now instead of 2-3 spark plug wires firing and 1-4 not firing, 1-4 fire and 2-3 don't fire.

the car shouldnt run without the CAS, the ecu needs it to determine when to send the spark.
along with the CPS.

are you sure you didnt mix up some of the wires along the way? if you switched the CAS from the Cam gears to the other side of the cam, wouldnt it be 180 degrees off? because its reversed?

just a thought...

I used the wiring connector from Magnus so that I didn't have to worry about wiring. I didn't do the ECU pin swap yet though. I wonder if that's what's keeping it from starting.

Okay I found an option under "Cam/Crank Sensor" called "Crank Alt Invert". Is that the one that I need to click?

Edit: I clicked it and uploaded the new calibration and nothing changed.

I'm starting to think that the problem is a wiring issue due to the half assed install of the AEM EMS by a previous owner.

If you switch to a 1g or 2gb style CAS or put a 95 ECU in a 97+ DSM you must invert the CAS signal.

Why?

Plain an simple: the 2ga CAS is polar opposite in position to all other model years. Therefore the reading the ECU recieves is also polar opposite. If you don't invert the signal you're basically giving your ECU dyslexia.

I believe I've done this now, it did not fix the issue.

Someone mentioned checking if the CAS is out 180*, but I didn't see if you checked that or not. Almost at the bottom of this website it shows how to verify with your 1g CAS.
RRE Instructions

I know the 1g CAS with AEM EMS causes long cranking. One guy has got a new trigger plate to help fix this. Might be something to look in to.
