1995 GST for $750??

So I just got some money back from school and i sold my four wheeler so i have some extra cash. (about $2000) I was gonna put it into stuff for my car untill i came across this.

1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST

Should I go ahead and pick this up? How hard would that be to fix? And how much are we looking at to fix it? Ill probably do all the work with a friend so that wouldnt be a problem. Just parts cost.

Anybody have any opinions?

You are looking at rebuilding the head basically. New valves and valve guides at the least. Then throw in a timing belt, t-belt tensioner and new pulleys. Since you are that far into it include replacing the water pump. Should be something in the 500-750 in parts range. Then include machine work since you have to replace the valve guides. I would also recommend replacing the valve seals at this time too. After that is fixed you will surely find other little things wrong with it, it is 16 years old after all. Check the tires, brakes, etc. You don't really know if the transmission is good either. I wouldn't pay over 500 for a non-running gs-t. If it were a gsx I would probably pay 750, but that is still pushing it to me.

I would also count on painting it unless you like the primer look. Replace the air bag unless that's your thing. The center console (if it is an actual pic of the interior) is actually out of an avenger or sebring. That isn't the stock center console (it should look the same as the one in your n/t). The seats also are out of a different car I am pretty sure. The side piece that attaches to the quarter panel for the wing is also missing, it looks like he filled in the holes. You might make sure it was done right and not just smoothed over with bondo.

He also did not mention mileage, just something to think about. Did he send you engine bay shots? 6 or 7 bolt engine? Mods? The radio is just laying in the dash, it should be mounted. If he didn't do that right, it is also possible he just electrical taped the wires together when installing it.

It comes down to how much are you willing to pay for it when you start seeing how things are done on it. Are you going to be happy having to fix all the little things wrong with it? Most of them shouldn't be expensive but they can add up. I paid 300 for mine and have since rebuilt the head which was supposedly all that was wrong with it. When I got it running the transmission was trash and the maf was fried. Also had some hidden wiring issues that got sorted out. Just be prepared for those things.

Fixing it wouldn't really be a priority cause it would just be a project for the next year or so. But i think a grand wouldn't be that bad to get it running. All the little things inside wouldn't bother me either. Although i would for damn sure change that air bag cover. That's not my thing at all.
As for the millage I have no idea. I'll call him about that tomorrow. While i do that ill see if he can send some more pics of the car.
I'm lucky when i find stuff like this because I've been under the hood of a car my whole life, I'm going to school for automotive tech and fundamentals, my dad used to be a mechanic, my uncle owns a body shop, and i have a cousin that runs a dealership, and I've learned a lot from them. So fixing it wouldn't be as much of a hassle as you would think.

The car looks like a rs not a gst.There's no side skirts.

My guess is it's not a gst due to side skirts also.. And there are No fog lights.. Which I think came standard on all turbo models. Even having the 97-99 bumper on the car. There should at least be a button by the power mirrors to indicate they are there.

OP, I would plan on investing a good amount of money to get that car is good, RELIABLE, safe running shape. In addition to the engine, im willing to bet bushings, shocks/springs, brakes are also pretty worked. I would definitly grab that but understand, chances are its gonna be a lot of replacing things and at least a couple grand before its a good car. Dont be that guy that buys the $750 dsm, puts a engine in it than cries when random parts keeping breaking...

It's been my experience that if it's not a priority it doesn't usually get done. Be ready to commit some serious time into the car not only a decent chunk of money. If you have the space and the tools which it sounds like you would and like working on the car and don't have a lot of other time commitments go for it.

Well I would have put the time and money into it but I called the guy today and he said somebody came to pick it up earlier today. Guess i didnt luck out.
