2G 1995 Eclipse GST - VSS Cable

Sorry for possibly posting if another topic already explains this..(Tired to search and Couldn't find what i needed )

I noticed that sensor port near side of Firewall on Tranny is not plugged in and I also do not have Speed on my cluster. IS this the SSV and Where is the origin of the cable. I do not see it and unable to locate easily.

Also Noticed my Gas gauge does not go above qr tank. Thinking I need to pull out the bobber and check if its stuck damaged or what not.. This sound like I am going in right direction?

This is the 2g VSS located in the rear trans bracket:

The VSS is not cable driven. Assuming the sensor is operating correctly, the connector just needs put on. If it is broken, it is easily replaced as it is only held in with one small bolt. You just may need remove a couple of things to get easy access to it.


For your fuel float, check out the links for threads similar to your situation. If you need a replacement, you will need a sending unit from a GST as the GSX (AWD) units are different. You may want to get a new gasket for the sending unit.

Thank you this is very helpful I notice the cable seems to come from the harness from front ( In your picture ) that is the hard part trying to find is the cable that plugs into the sensor hehe.

You won't find a cable in the harness (95 GST). It is an electrical connector.

I get what you are saying but what ever plugs into the top of sensor is not located yet to plug in.. For it to send a signal to cluster something must be plugged in correct... Based on picture above i do not have the red connection its just prongs.

Still looking for what plugs into the sensor and cannot find.. Does anyone know where the the cord that plugs into the sensor on the tranny starts so i can track it down..

If your harness is routed how it was from the factory, the branch with the VSS connector should be found on the trans under the thermostat housing.

Ty Ill check there when I get home or before I leave work.. (Using GPS on phone atm ) Also i know this is off topic but how do i know what headers are available for my setup.. I am uber noob to turbos so still reading.. even if you know a topic that explains such a thing would be great.. I love reading and learning so would be helpful.

Resolved, Found the cable today. was really tucked under stuff.. Speedo is working again. Ty you 2gmitsueclipse for your guidance
