I am in the middle of rebuilding my 7bolt 4g63 and when I pulled my 18g off I noticed it was fried. I would rather spend the cash and buy a new turbo but I am stuck if I should go with the GT35r instead of the 18g I had. The motor build is a BC 2.4 stroker. I have heard good things about the dual bearing setups but I have been a GReddy fan since 04.

Why the 35r tho? That's a way bigger turbo then a 18g for sure. If you want more power and have more parts to match the 35r then hell yeah its a way better choice. You definitely have the motor to back it up you just need injectors and such to make it right. A 35r brand new isn't cheap but if you have the money I say go for it.

I have the injectors already and I am willing to buy the external o2 wg dump pipe w/38mm wg and the housing for the stock flange conversion. I am also doing the BC cams w/value springs and retainers. I had already started the fuel output conversion when I started to build the car. So I guess the GT35r would be the best choice then.

ECM link v3lite is going in as well and I am going to lose the SAFC. I am also doing the act streetlite flywheel. My plan is to have it ready for street tuner mayhem next year.

42lb/min versus 65lb/min. Not even in the same ballpark concerning fitment, spool, and power output. ;)

Thanks for the input I wasn't sure about the specs between the two. Good to know.:thumb:

I don't have a first hand experience to go by on this, but a 35R isn't even on the same performance planet as an 18g. Then again rebuilding a 18g vs buying GT35R isn't on the same price planet either- LOL.

So really it depends on what kind of power you are wanting to make out of that 7 bolt, and whether you want your power earlier in the powerband or later like the Garret.

Why not use a Holset HX-40? Wouldn't it meet the same goals as a Garret 35R?

From what I understand the gt35/40r is pretty much the same as the hx35/40. The only real difference is price holset costs more vs garret from what I have seen. But still it will cost over a grand so buck vs bang. I have decided on the 35r it will run smother with the 2.4 stroker and I will run it with the punishment 44mm o2 housing w/dump with Tial 44mm wg.

A brand new Garrett is way more then any holset man. You should look at those prices again. You can find a rebuilt hx40 for 500 bucks. With the housing and everything else it's about 900 bucks compared to 1500+ for a 35r.

The difference between the two is one is journal bearing and one is ball bearing. The "R" stands for the CHRA being ball bearing. Journal bearing also can be easily rebuilt compared to the garrett BB cartridge.

So is this 35r is a stock appearing hotside for you to use the punishment o2 housing with a 44 dump? Will it be a .63 housing? Results from the community show that those housings really limit the 35 wheel. What hotside do you plan on using?

If you are going for the 35R at this point, why not a FP hotside? You can still run that 44mm wastegate you want, just need to fab up a downpipe.

That was my next question. How would it effect the hot side and turbo. My mechanic has said no change but I'm not sure cause I would really like to keep my current down pipe.
