I have a 97 Talon tsi fwd mostly stock with bolt ons 67,xxx miles, needs a little work here and there

This isnt really a comparison thread its more of a discussion, I plan on doing a road course/ drive every once and a while car. Im not very competetive i dont really plan on making gobs and gobs of power on a fwd vehicle. (because its fwd) I just want to make it a fun car that I can drive and take to VIR on the weekends.

Any way just kinda wanted to start a talk about turbo choices, its obvious that I will be going for either one of these turbos

A side note I plan on running an electronic boost controller. DSM link will be my tuning option (ECMlink) I dont plan on doing internals at all, Just gonna run stock top and bottom end ( maybe, just MAYBE some cams)

BIG 16G- I feel would be a good choice because of the quicker spool but I would be worried about the dead spot and the drop off of boost at higher rpm. Is this something I should really be worried about? Or is it needless and I should get the quicker spool.

20G - That being said we all know bigger turbo = bigger power, and I ###### wouldnt have to worry about the drop off as much in higher rpm, The lag actually might be more of assistance due to being fwd. It very well could help with wheel spin issues the car may encounter

haha comedian, everyone is an expert when trying to criticize!
That'll be $10.00 for being...:notgood:

I'll be charging interest (compounded daily) for the period between now and when you realize I'm not BS-ing you LOL

I'm no Sebastien Loeb, but I've learned a bit. Some the hard way, some from professionals.

If you found my post, and the follow up intimidating.. Nor sure what to tell you, as you seemed immediately combative and in disbelief per your response.

Maybe this will help:

Solution: Learn how to drive. :aha:

This^^^ Will always be better than anything you could possibly put under your hood.

Id say start off with a 14b,small 16g or T28.... WIth the car being front wheel drive, and especially with the 14b turbo being a cheap, reliable workhorse, it will take you a long way..If youre still getting into DSM, youll find enjoyment in smaller turbos and i feel have a better appreciation for what the car is capable of at different levels, then if you just jump in and try to go straight to the moon on the first pop. This car is the junkyard dog of racing.Very cheap to make fast.

If youre not in this for drag racing, id say get a smaller turbo and use the money saved to work your supporting mods, like injectors, fuel pump, a clutch that gonna hold all that power that youll eventually build up to, some tires, the axels and maybe an LSD... Hows about a well rounded car rather than something thats just gonna squeel tires around town.

Most of the mitsu turbos are pretty cheap to get ahold of and plenty of deals to go around. If you wanted to buy a 14b now and then a Evo 16g for down the road when you get bored and want to change the car, its not hard to find and not terribly expensive. Im not much into drag racing myself, but i have in the past, now just some highway runs and my own personal enjoyment of the car since its what i wanted since the day saw the 2g in 1995...Ive rocked a t-25, 14b, big 16g and now an evo 16.. Still love the 14b...as i think a lot of people still do. The oldest turbo and its still relevant today. Quick spool and people taken it to great lengths. Its a very versatile turbo for most of the thing you want to do, If you get the itch to swap AWD then yes youll find much more enjoyment in the bigger turbos...

We were told to stop.

But I just can't:

I've had a 14B, S16G, Greddy 18G, etc all the way up through the HX52 on the car now.. it is nearly ALL about the driver.

Yeah a 20g is extremely similar to a 16g in regards to spool, but has more topend. I noticed today at 80% throttle I was at 3-5psi at 2500rpms.
