Yeah, it still taking so long to spool (4500 RPM), and if I go WOT from low RPM, the car just lags its ass off and I have to downshift.

Any of you Big 16G guys having similar problems?

I upgraded the exhaust manifold and even went with a GM MAF/MAFT in blowthrough setup to help the turbo spool. Still no dice. My 14b kicked more ass than this big 16G.

If you still have your 14b, try swapping it in to see if the symptoms persist. If they do not, then it's likely the turbo, and I'd send it back to SBR under their 1 year warranty.

It could be an exhaust leak.

Could very well be, but it would have to be a pretty big leak to keep it from spooling like you said. Check the manifold and right at the cat or if you dont have a cat, right where the dp connects to the cat back.

You'll be surprised. The slightest exhaust leak can cause a huge turbo lag. I've felt the difference before personally. After the crack was fixed, the car felt much better.

Hmm, ill have to look into that, my exhaust def has a small leak and my turbo has been acting funny lately, but i thought it was the leak in my intake. Fixed that and it still does it sparatically.

I blew the gasket out between the turbo and manifold but still had full spool by 3800 rpm. This was @ 16 psi on my b16g. Im not saying it is impossible but like 96TSI_Chris said, it would have to be a rather large leak for full spool not to be reached till 4500 rpm.

Probably a bent wastegate actuator. Make sure that there is some preload on the wastegate flapper door.

ditto with me, my turbo doesn't hit full boost until 4.2k. no exhaust leaks that I've detected and no boost leaks. WG arm is perfectly fine and there's definately load on the flapper.

any other ideas? could it be because i'm running rich and timing is being pulled? i have a 190 with no other fuel tuning/mods

Yeah, no leaks in the exhaust. I took it back where it was done, and we went over it with a fine tooth comb. No boost leaks, I just presurized the system before and after I installed the MAFT.

I was thinking too that it might have something to do with my timing being pulled. Right now, my FTRL is very lean. I'm going to clear that up tonight and see what happens.

really really bad boost leak, or cracked exhaust manifold would be my guess.

does it spike right upto 5 psi or something around 3000rpm, plateau, then shoot up like a mofo?

i was having the same problem with my 14b. but mine was spooling a 4000rpms just check the actuator, the flapper might not be closing completely so that's more than likely the problem.

You can try shimming the wastegate. Its a trick in the MKIII Supra book I picked up.

- Take some small washers
- Unbolt the wastegate from the turbo housing
- Take the washers and add two at a time to each side between the wastegate and housing.
- Test every two you put on, add more if needed

MKIII Supra guys do this to increase boost, but what it does is add tension against the WG flapper to keep it shut longer. You may raise your boost level slightly, but it'll help tell you if the WG flapper is at fault. When this trick is done on the stock CT26 turbo, 2 washers per side usually results in 1 PSI. Some something to give a shot at.

Another thing may be a clogged cat (if you have one). If you have a cheap one or a stock one on, try gutting it.

My flapper is nice and tight. I have a brand new dp and high flow cat, so that's not the problem either. Exhaust manifold is brand new 2G with 7cm gasket to match the B16G.

I will try to explain this as best as I can:

- Find your wastegate
- Unbolt the two bolts holding the wastegate to the compressor and remove them
- Take some small washers and place them between the wastegate and compressor
- Place the bolts back into place

This spaces out the wastegate from the housing further, causing more tension on the wastegate spring and keeping it shut longer.

bah, sorry for the needing the retard explanation. I kept visualizing the WG arm and where it connected to the flapper ..

anywho, i just went outside and did this. putting 2 washers in for each bolt. Went for a spin [ and besides an FMIC hose blowing off ] full boost hit at 3.7-3.8k but it didn't "kick in" until 4.1-4.2k again.

so figuring it might be the MBC, i went and took it out. now boosting stock 11 psi.. i hit full boost at 3.5k, which still translates to full boost [ 16 psi ] at ~4.2k..

any other ideas? or should i stick another 2 washers on each side of the WG again?
