Alright guys. i have a big 16g and i just installed it on my car. i hooked everything up looks great turned her on and i see i have a small oil leak coming from the turbo. it is coming from the top banjo bolt which if i am not mistaken is the oil feed line. i let the car warm up and let oil get flowing and i take her around the block, with the oil still leaking. I am building no boost untell very high rpms (max 4-7lb) and the car is super super slow. Do you guys think that the leaking oil line could be the problem or is there something else i should be worried about.

thanks

i searched and didnt find anything that directly answered my question.

Souds like to me that u have one of the intercooler lines off or not clamped down .When i installled my new turbo i primed the turbo by unpluging the plug wires and turning the car over 5 or6 times then put the plug wires back on.When i took of down the road the car would do fine until i started to hit boost and then it fell on its face got back home and i had forgot to tighten the clamp on the intake/intercooler line hope this helps.
Also i would fix the oil leak asap this should not stop your turbo from boosting but it could destroy it very fast.If this dont fix it try a boost leak test .

i am almost positive the arm is attached to the wastegate bc it was building some boost. I used a exhaust flex pipe so maybe i am getting that bad of a boost leak from it. i welded my j pipe to it so it fit my lower piping perfect. Ill wrap it with ducttape LOL if it gets better i know thats my problem. untell then keep them coming.

i have a wastegate from a 14b... will that work with the 16g? i turned my boost controller all the way down that shouldnt affect it should it?

I remember reading somewhere in the forums that when people first installed their 16g, they had to do some adjustments with the wastegate actuator spring. It was something about it getting either stuck or not moving when it was supposed to. I will search and try to find a link for you.

Thats probably not the best way to do it. You should do an actual boost leak test. Just search it and you will find alot of informatin on it. You can either buy or make a tester. Both ways are cheap.

I initially had this problem when I put my 14b on. I found a leak right where the LICP connected to the intercooler. Once I fixed that, it was fine, more or less (I had another problem too).

Boost leak checks are one of the simplest things you can do, and generally solves your problem.

alright guys i fixed the oil leak and i am pretty sure my prob lies within my piping. I have no smoke at all and i am building some boost. I put some ducktape around a pipe that might be leaking air (flex pipe) and i built about 10 or so pounds just very very slow. Could this be a result of fuel cut? i havent installed the fuel pump yet (wanted to take it one step at a time to make sure everything is done right) If anyone has any info on how to check the spring lmk becuase that seems like it could be the problem. I also have an adjustable wastegate.. is there an adjustment that would allow better operation?

thanks

i will run a boost leak test tonight

I know you are probably on a budget... but getting some good clamps (t-bolt) and couplers (reenforced silicone) sounds like it will probably make all the difference in the world for your setup. Even if you get these leaks fixed, I would bet that you don't have the most reliable setup right now. I'm not sure if you are just doing this temporarily or not, but from experience I can tell you that good intercooler piping/hardware will save you many many many headaches in the long run.

my setup is fully t-bolted and the flex pipe is welded to my lower piping and the jpipe. The only thing that could be leaking is the flex tube from being heated. Does anyone know if maybe the wastegate rod is too long or somthing?

If it's an MHI 16g, the wastegate rod isn't adjustable, so it's the right size.

Do a proper boost leak test and this will tell you where your problem lies. I've never heard of anyone using flex pipe for intercooler piping, so my bet is that's the culprit.

^^^+1, Major boost leak probably.

boost leak test tomorrow.. i found out that the flex pipe dosnt hold pressure its only designed to allow gasses to flow

Wastegate arm needs to pull the flapper. If you can remove the cotter pin and the wastegae arm just slides on the flapper wih ease, its not sealing properly. Check for that and fix boost leaks.
