hey guys
I know this is like the 100,000 thread about a 16g install. I read throught the threads and found alot of what I needed except a few quick questions. I read that you either can get a 6 bolt oil return line or file it till it fits. Is that true? I also read that you can tweak the stock water lines to fit. The 2 questions I had is what about the oil feed line? What to do there? Also the j-pipe. What to do there? Do you have to get a new one or can you modify it? Is there any thing else like new bolts or gaskets that wont line up?

thanks

You need some sort of Jpipe to put a 14b/16g on a 2g.
Its the 2g return line that you can file. ( there not off that much )
As for the oil supply line, most people get a SS supply line.

To answer your question about the coolant lines, yes you can make the stock lines work. Just some slight modification.

Regarding your question about filing a 2G return line to make it fit: It is possible. Take a look as my artwork below. The is a choppy view of the flange where it bolts to the turbo. You will need to file or remove the area in RED. Or you can just locate a 1G return line and it will work just as well.

The j-pipe that ran was made so that it curved toward the middle of the 2 stock fans. It starts off bending just off the left side of the exhaust manifold (5 o'clock position I believe, instead of the traditional 7 o'clock). It had some crappy welds, but after that was fixed it worked fine with both of the stock fans still in place and it doesn't come near the intake, like other folks have experienced. If you have any of those problems just cut the j-pipe (use index lines and have the pipe bolted on) and rotate it counter-clockwise, weld it, grind down the welds and paint with high temp paint to match :thumb: . Try to test it IAV(or rotate the pipe without it being bolted on) first if you go this route, as mine may have been bent slightly different ;) good luck.

Yes, the 6-bolt oil return line will work. some people have chopped the middle section of the return line and replaced it with the appropriate size fuel hose and clamps on either end and secured it to both ends of the the original pipe by the flanges (turbo & oil pan). This will give you plenty of slack, however I have not done this and don't know how well it will last or hold up, just giving you another idea if it becomes a problem.

Im helping a buddy put a evo 3 in. He bought a laser and it had it on it. He took it off and put on a 14b and sold it. Then he got a 95 gst and we're gonna put the evo on it. The guy he bought the laser from said that "it wasn't water cooled" just oil cooled. Then my friend said when he took it off the water lines were like capped off. Whats up with that. Would this hurt the turbo? Or am I wrong and that particular turbo isn't water cooled? But I thought that all dsm turbos were?

14b's and 16g's are both water cooled turbochargers. However, you can operate them without water cooling. You would just have to turbo time your turbo before every shutoff. With that said, if you have a wet CHRA, I would still recommend useing the water lines and not capping them off. I consider water cooling to be added life insurance on a turbocharger.

I just installed a 16g this week, I reclocked it so that it dumps out the bottom toward my front mount intercooler, it worked great, but was a lot of work.

Is the spot that the oil supply line bolts into the block the same on the 6 bolt and the 7 bolt?
