I installed my EVO III 16G on last Friday
Because i over tightened the oil pressure sender unit
and cracked the oil filter housing i couldn't used the car
Until today that i replace it

Went out for some tuning
When i did my first pull i noticed a strong smell
When i looked back in the rear view mirror i saw a huge cloud of smoke
Puller over and noticed a lot of oil in the tail pipe
This only happens when i am in boost (peak boost is 15psi)
NO smoke @ idle and cruising, water temp and oil pressure are normal

What could be causing this?

I just bought a Evo III 16g from my buddy. It was on his 97 GSX fed from the OFH for 10k miles and it has very little shaft play (standard MHI play). I just bolted up the turbo to my 95(car isnt running yet) and am half tempted to switch feed locations. Both cars still have balance shafts.

Just removed the turbo
is weird ... no oil in the exhaust wheel, exhaust housing, compressor wheel nor the compressor housing
but still play in the compressor side more play in the exhaust side
also noticed that the turbo has an internal oil restrictor

Hmm when mine had too much oil pressure it left oil coming out exhaust side on one turbo and compressor side on another turbo. Weird you don't see any oil on either side

Bad news for me

I do have some bad news, though. Upon disassembling the turbo I found classic symptoms of the turbo either being over-oiled or oil deprived, or a combination of the two. The signs of either failure are very similar.

What I want you to do is reinstall the turbo on your car, hook the oil supply line to the head fitting as the TD05H turbos are supposed to get their feed from the head rather than the oil filter housing, and see what happens. If it lasts, then it was obviously an oiling issue that was related to the oil supply going to the filter housing whether it was too much pressure or an air pocket related to your swapping the filter housing.
