i'm tired of getting used turbos and running them for about a week before they crap out, I have pretty bad luck

so i've been looking up a couple different ways i can go about buying a new turbo

my first out was the forced performance evo 16g which is $550 shipped

recently my friend showed me the bullseye turbo line up and how they are a direct bolt up to my 2g ported manifold. I've found a couple for about $600, which is still in my price range of what i'd spend on that 16g, and i was wondering if this upgrade would be worth the extra money. I don't want to spend more then $650 on my turbo but i want something that i can make power on. should i go with the 16g or would bullseye be worth the extra bucks?

heres the link to the site with the bullseye turbos
Garrett, Bullseye Power, Precision Turbochargers

evo 3 16g is the way to go if thats all you can spend
its totally worth the money, the turbo will last too

i had one for 3 years and never ran under 30psi on it
now its on another car doing the same thing still kicking!
i recommend feeding the turbo oil from the oil filter housing

plus you can build the rest of your car around it
theres people running 13s on them, theres people (like me) running low 11s even 10s on them

That link contains .55 - .70 trims. The most asked question for turbo selection is "what do you want out of the car?". A 50 trim setup will have lots of useable power, but it will come in a bit later than that of a 16g. You can run plenty of boost through an E3 and still maintain the reliability.

Personally, with your price range and specific wants - I would go with another 16g. I don't know how your turbo went kaput but it may have had a prior problem that was not checked out.

If I were you, I would find a turbocharger rebuilder. Take your 16g or a blow e316g and have it rebuilt. Turbos have bearings and seals in them like many other parts of the motor. IMO if your looking to spend around 550 I would go with a rebuilt 16g preferably E3, and do an external wastegate setup.

yeah i found a local guy i know whos selling a slowboy big 16g welded w/ external tial 38mm wastegate and an o2 dump that goes all the way to your cat for $500 with about 5000 miles on it and i've seen him run it

so i'll be picking that up tonight and hopefully hitting boost for the first time in a while

what do you mean?

what do you mean?

He means you said your tired of buying 2nd hand turbos and then blowing them up. But, your gonna buy another 2nd hand turbo. I mean dont get me wrong that is a very good setup. 16g+ Welded + 38mm External. Thats basically what I would like to run on this car. It has worked well in the past.

I agree with you , I think... Can you elaborate?

I think he means most DSMers will not ever see the ~375-410 WHP that the 16g is capable of. I.E. a lot of people will slap on a bunch of mods and call it a day, say there car is making over 900 horsepower and never take it to a Dyno, or invest 1 penny in tuning.

RAWR Bigger Turbo [Check]
Yay Loud Exhaust [Check]
Turned Boost past 11 [check]

Then they pop a headgasket or shread a timing belt because they didnt do maint and now there car is dead in the driveway or for sale.

see thts why i'm not trying to buy anything ridiculous
i know a 16g is more then enough for what i have planned for my car but if i could buy a better turbo for around the same price its like why not?

i ended up buying that 16g with the tial and open dump for $500 last night
once i get back home i'll throw it on and hopefully feel boost again

You got it.

Most guys will bolt on an Evo III 16G because it's a cheap, easy, direct-fit upgrade, then they read that Curt Brown made 500whp and ran a 10.33 with an Evo III 16G so all of a sudden their car will do the same at 15psi.

The same hype is starting to follow the HTA68 right now.

most guys think that an exhaust an intake adds 50hp though LOL
i'm going to buy some 1000s soon and run e85 so i should be able to max out that 16g and i'll be fine with that
i'm 18 i dont need any more power... for now

I gotcha, Kinda what i thought. If the 14b would hold a little longer without getting so hot, It would be the perfect street turbo. I wish i still had one lying around with winter coming. I would throw it on and enjoy the early powerband. Not that the e3 doesnt come on early, But the 14b is just different. But i get what you meant, Thanks.
