14b safe boost on 1g

HOW MUCH BOOST CAN I RUN SAFELY RUNING 11PSI DAYLY DRIVEN ??????? on race day untill i get a 255lph pump
 
what are your plans for the car? do you want a street car or an unreliable weekend driver. With supporting mods like injectors, and a different pump you can run 20 all day with no problems.
If you choose to get a 255 pump you will need an AFPR, or else your going to flood your car every time you start it and get poor gas mileage. As far as injectors go..you dont want to push more than 15lbs through 450's or a stock fuel system.
 
I would just keep the stock boost level which is around 7-10 ish psi or if you have a mbc then set it to 15 psi.
 
I had mine setup for 13psi tappered to 12 in upper RPMS. Worked well and never had an issues. I know it was on the safe side but it was my only means of transportation.
 
I had mine at 15psi when all I had was a walbro pump. I wouldn't go over that until you have an upgraded fuel system and a way to tune it.
 
Most people say the 14b runs out above 18psi. Which is true IMO.
The biggest problem with turning up the boost on a stock dsm is the fuel system. 450's got me to 12psi and 80%+IDC's.
Runnin 1000cc's now soon to be e85.
 
It wont do anything for a while depending on how you drive. I wouldnt run with a stock fuel system unless your running stock boost. Hence "stock"
 
You should consider getting at least a Walbro 190. Also, get a logger... A logger should help you determine how much you can "safely" turn up your boost.
 
You should get a logger and a 190lph fuel pump. A new 190lph only cost 95 dollars or less. Once you have these two you will know what you can boost at.:)

Just wondering if this is always the case or only on some cars? I ask because I have a 255 w/o an AFPR and my car starts up fine every morning and idles around 800 after it's warmed up, it also gets around 25mpg in stop and go traffic. I just want to make sure I'm wrecking the car in some way by driving it like this.
 
Without an aftermarket fpr and a 255 the car will have higher than stock fuel pressure at idle and cruise. You can fix this by modifying the stock regulator. I will try to find the article that shows how to do this.
 
I ran my 14b to 18psi with 550cc injectors and then upgraded to a 16g and then to a 50trim. The 14b at 18 psi gives you pretty good power, it's a fun turbo when you push it to the end.
 
As far as wrecking the car, I don't think running rich will ever be dangerous

Until you blow your piston ring from constantly washing the cylinders down with fuel and possibly blow the motor b/c gas is in your oil. Does that sound dangerous, b/c it is. Not trying to sound like an a## or flame you, just telling you what will happen b/c is sounds like you don't know.

To the op, you can't run 19 psi without injectors and a upgraded pump. So if that what you want to run on track day,you need more than a pump. Until then you should be plenty safe at 14 psi, on the stock system. Also as said before a logger is the best way to know how much you can push your setup safely.
 
15 would be the limit til you can get a pump and injectors.

I did 10 on street and 14-16 racing.

I did take my 14b to 25-26 psi for a month i did this and i can say it really runs out at 20+ your blowing hotter and hotter air after this. Though make sure your car is 100% great condition ie: no boost leaks, all repairs, etc

I did not take this advice and my intake pipe was loose, at 26 psi my intake pipe got sucked into my turbo. Make sure your car is good condition.

May want to get dsmlink and some off the critical gauges. (oil pressure, boost, coolant temp, o2 reading, etc)
 
I ran 17 psi for almost 4 years and 30,000 miles with nothing more than Venom injectors rated 10% higher than stock and a Venom fuel pump (unknown output). A Pacesetter turbo header that still has not given me any trouble, TurboXS MBC, K&N, stock exhaust after the header, free mods, stock intake system. Motor was freshly rebuilt with all stock components, a cheap $250 ITM rebuild kit actually! Shortly after breaking it in and putting Royal Purple synthetic from engine to rearend I took it took the strip and ran a 13.8, sorry no timeslip but it was 3-1/2 years ago and I had no idea about this site or that I was going to get more involved with imports. Knowing what I know now with the aid of this site, I would have done things totally different but it worked. 17 psi on a virtually stock fuel system and motor for nearly 4 years with no troubles. I just tore it down 2 weeks ago to prep it for some more power and it was in immaculate condition. Just my 2 cents.
