I bought this car last fall down in Lexington, Ky. Overall the car was in good shape. Interior needed some cleanup and the burgundy paint job was fading and the clear was pealing on the driver rear quarter panel. Overall the rust was very minimal from what Im used to seeing on DSMs in Michigan.
Come Christmas 2010, I had a week to spend at my parents and planned to paint the car. After a few days of prepping and priming, I found out the driver rear quarter had been dented and repaired with bondo (explains the pealing clear coat). I ended up having to spend the entire week block sanding the horrible repair work and only got the primer coat on.
Here's how it sat after Christmas
As much as I hated it, I had to drive this thing around in primer for 7 months until I had another free week to come back to my parents. Having most of the exterior prepped all I had to do was wetsand it again, primer one good coat and it was ready for base. Im so busy with family and my cousins wedding that I only had enough time to do the exterior. Ill have to do the jams one at a time with spray paint made up from the paint store and the engine bay when I get a chance to pull the engine next winter.
My favorite color is black, but white is a close second. I see WAY too many black DSMs anymore and not enough white, so I made my color choice. 2012 Lexus Whitest White. I've only seen in on the new LFA and I wanted something brighter than normal.
Here's a few photos of how it looks after the paint job this morning and partial reinstallation of parts. The humidity was 70% but I had no choice and had to go through with painting. Result was A LOT of runs in the clearcoat so Ill be quite busy when the clear hardens.
Ill have more pictures of the completed job once I can get it back together all the way.
