11's passing smog

I can't decide weather I want a street car or a full blown race car. So I think I'll take a little bit of both.

I've owned 6 DSM's now and know most of the tricks with these things. I'm a little fuzzy on the tranny stuff but the rest of it I'm familiar with.

I want to run deep into the 11's and still pass the local Ca. smog inspections.

So I'm thinking a stroker 2.3 with the TD05 20G from Slow Boy Racing. That way my turbo housing still looks stock. I'll have to run a 3 inch exhaust off the O2 housing so I'll have to hide the O2 housing with the stock heat sheild. Of course painting the exhaust black is a must, as well as running dual tips off the muffler to retain the stock look. I'll have to hide my direct port nitrous on the bottom of the intake manifold, and maybe extrude hone the manifold itself. I can't use anything bigger than stock cams but I can tune the hell out of everything with the AEM ECU. My stock suspension is staying to keep me from braking my rear end and stock fragile 3 bolt drivetrain. I've run mid 12's on stock suspension with stock wheels and tires before so I'm staying with that combination.

Has anyone else achieved mid 11's and still passed smog? I'm hoping to hear tips from those who have. Thanks guys.

I think i got a great idea for u bro. Its great for power and can still be streat legal. Have u ever thought about an electric cut out uyou can run stock piping if u want and like 4 cats and with the flip of a switch just have down pipe out!!
 
california smog will see the cut out and flip their shit.

If you wanted a bigger turbine to match that 2.3 you might be able to leave a FP unit in some salt water after you've ground off the FP. Hell you could probably get a 600hp setup that way :D

Could you run a 14B to the test facility then swap out with XYZ when you get home? Or if you get pulled over will cops look under your hood?

Run a cat, the enviroment will thank you, even if you do loose a bit of power.
 
Hint get a Gsx and you won't have to run the smog rollers, i just smogged 3 months ago with the upgrades listed i my profile so with a Gsx all ya gotta run is the sniffer test, i just leaned it out and a few other lil adjustments and it passed.

I don't see how you're going to get AEM EMS to communicate through the OBD port.

But then maybe your 1g doesn't have to. It's probably easier to just either swap out stuff when the time comes to smog or find someone that is willing to overlook visual as long as you can pass sniffer.
 
i live in cali. if there is a will, there is a way. also, if you look at the norcal forums, there is a thread about some of us passing with 50trims and such. all you need is a shop that doesn't care about visuals, which there are plenty. if not, just swap back to stock when it's time to smog.

personally...i smog before i mod.
1. buy car
2. smog
3. mod
4. 2 years down the road...either put the stock turbo on, or find a friend

p.s. you can pass with cams
