SUp guys im wondering if 110 leaded race gas would be safe to run on my car maybe once or twice a week when im racing? The mods i have are....Kn filter....mbc@17-18psi with my fuel pump rewired...Straight pipe...and a muffler. WHat are the possitive effects and what are the negatives, thnx for all responses :thumb: :talon:

Would i beable to turn my boost up a lil more safely with race fuel? and what about mixing 110 leaded with 91 unleaded would that do anything?

running race gas would let you run higher boost since you're less likely to detonate the higher octane fuel. mixing race gas and normal gas has no negative effects besides lowering the overal octane rating of the fuel in your tank.

in order to know how high to turn your boost up (safely) it would be wise to invest in some sort of logging software and then experiment with different boost settings as long as you're not getting a lot of knock.

you dont' want to run race gas all the time, but once in a while is ok.

cool i dont plan on boostin past 17-18 at all anyways so i should be safe then..... :thumb:

By just throwing in race gas you are not going to be faster, you have to tune your car to take advatage of the higher octane.

Ever since they switched to unleaded every car says to run unleaded. But leaded full is the best fuel you can run if you want performance. It doesn't meet the emissions requirements, but the lead in the fuel lubricates your valves. Which is good, because unleaded fule does not.

Our cars are not meant for leaded gas. It will kill your O2 sensors. You can run 17 PSI on pump w/ supporting mods..... But if you insist on race gas, find something like VP that is 110 unleaded and mix it with your 91 octane.

Exactly, it will also destroy your cat if you still have it on. Go with 110 unleaded.

I ran nothing but leaded, and I man nothing but leaded for 10,000 miles before I sold my car. Never had any issues with dead o2 sensors or anything. And I even ran a catalytic converter for a while until I decided I wanted to get serious about racing. Just swapped in the cat when emissions time came around.

I even passed inspection without an airfilter just to see if I could. I ran a VPC/GCC setup. Open turbo.

In my opinion, with your partivular car, I wouldn't even bother with leaded or high octane fuel. You don't have enough stuff to take advantage of it. We tried with a friends 2G. HE had a 16g, boost controller, clutch and hard intecooler pipes, ran the same on pump gas and leaded and 105 unleaded.

So what you all are saying is that i should stay with regular pump gas or if i use race fuel i should go with unleaded not leaded?!?! and not mix the gas?

Look, you're going to get mixed opinions whether or not to use leaded gas....

Obviously you have some kind of goal in mind with running race gas. What is that goal?
Like someone allready said - race gas will do you no good if you dont tune for it. What are you using to tune?
I guess, if we knew what your goals were it would ne easier to answer your questions. Please fill in the blanks.

"I am considering using leaded race gas instead of 91 octane pump gas because ____________________."

Well to honest with you all i really dont have anything to tune my air/fuel mixture or anything like that :| i just heard u can gain a good carlength or more just from race fuel(correct me if im wrong) Or does that only apply if you tune?!?!

No, race gas is not one of those thing you can just pour in the tank and go faster....
High octane race gas allows you to turn up the boost and also allows you to run higher timing. You must tune your car for the higher octane to take advantage of any performance gains. Race gas is like the icing on the cake. You need to make the cake first.

So lets say i run 17psi all the time, if i use race gas i can/should? turn it up to maybe 18 or 19?

you need to have tuning devices so that you can tune it accordingly. SAFC, or something like that so you can mess with your a\f ratio for the race gas. personally id only use it if i was going to the track since you have to tune it and such.

You need supporting modifications to run high amounts of boost. You need a free-flowing exhaust, fuel mods (pump, injectors), and tuning tools. ( <------ the short list)

To answer your question, if a car was built to properly run 17 lbs (which yours is not), then adding race gas and doing a little tuning, you could safely turn up the boost.

I dont really see what you're getting at.... None of the above applys to you. Dumping leaded gas into your stock 13 year old car will not do anything good for you.

What about here in California where we only have 91 but would like to have something around 93 again just for daily driving. Would like a gallon of 110 unleaded do the trick mixed with a tank of 91? Just curious.

DSM MAN -
I'm pretty sure your car will do just fine on 91, not worth the extra $ in my opinion. But since all that is offered is 91, why not just try and do what you can by purchasing gasoline from a better known provider, i.e (chevron, shell, arco) etc.

Does high octane fuel have any effects on a two stroke motor? Like a 250cc dirtbike? Just outta curiousity in proving a friend wrong...:D

high octane fuel just has less tendency to denote which makes the engine last longer (assuming you get regular knock,.... if not you can just use whatever octane your using...) which is why you can run a higher boost setting,... denotation is less likely... i wouldnt run race gas if i was you (the thread starter) because your still using the stock fuel pump, right? unless your getting denotation right now (likely) there would be no point in using a higher octane because your fuel pump limits the boost you can run before youll hit fuel cut....

as for the dirt bike thing.... id say not... it would only allow longer engine life basically....
