92 Laser AWD, bolt on 50 trim, pump gas with methanol spray. Comp 100 cams, 680 injectors, stock intake/tbody/unported head, 9:1 bottom end. Stock ECU with DS-MAP and 3.5 bar AEM map sensor. 225/45/17 Sumitomo HTR-Z's spinning first and 2nd gear. We were racing on the first day after Mission Raceway laid down fresh pavement :(

Made 4 passes in total. 11.154 @ 133.94mph, 11.071 @ 133.47, 11.018 @ 133.61. For the last pass I turned the boost up to my dyno setting, but picked up a little knock in 4th gear so I lifted. Based on the 1000ft time, I shoulda/woulda/coulda ran at least 10.8x. I wanted to run a 10 on pump/meth exactly as I street drive it, and actually turned down some leftover VP from another racer. Luckily I still got it done... barely.

60' 1.636
330 4.708
1/8 7.092
mph 101.14
1000 9.133
1/4 10.975
mph 116.68

I also have a 92 Talon AWD w/ Evo 16g, Dejon SMIC, stock 450's and pump/meth that ran 11.92 @ 117mph last year on a stock clutch. DS-MAP on that car as well, and looking for at least mid 11's this year.

More details on setup. What kind of 50 trim? pTE, SBR?
Boost level?
Congrats sounds like you do a good job of putting a car together

PTE with the internal WG port blocked off. DN header w/ Tial 38 atmo dumped. About 29.5psi on the 11.0/11.1 passes and 31psi on the 10.97 run. Methanol spray is a Shurflo 150psi pump, demand switch bypassed, hobbs switch set to 10psi, check valve and a single large AEM nozzle mounted on the throttle body elbow. This sprays 950-1000cc on the bench, and I'm guessing a bit less with 30psi pushing against the nozzle. Looks like I'll be jetting the methanol up so I can run 31psi all the way down the track next time, and I should have my oil cooler, 180* stat and 2nd rad fan in as well. Coolant temps were 206F in staging which can't be good.

Timing starts at 14 deg, climbing to 16 by redline and this was carefully dialed in on our Mustang AWD dyno, as well as A/F which is 11.6:1 all across. No cam gears yet, so the cams are straight up, except for the head and block being resurfaced. The Felpro MLS head gasket should make up for most of it though.

Wow, very nice times for the setup.

What does she weigh? It seems like a bit under 3k lbs is a requirement.

Also, can I ask how you ended up with 16 degrees at redline? Was that MBT via the dyno?

2955lbs race weight with half a tank of fuel. Laser with no a/c, abs or sunroof, wingless, CF hood, rebars out and I pulled the passenger and rear seats for the track. I do still have the stock battery and tray, so between the mini battery and aluminum mount, less fuel and a few other small details I should be able to be mid 2900's with full interior.

Timing was done cell by cell on our dyno to reach MBT. I see a lot of cars with way too much advance in them, that pick up power with less timing.

That's with you in it, correct?

What rpm do you start at 14 degrees? I would assume MBT is so "low" because of your relatively high compression and boost. Always been curious what a MBT curve would look like.

Was 11.6 AFR decided upon after some trial and error for best power or just kind of a relative target?

Sorry for all the questions :) Just seems like you put a lot of time and research into your tune.

I'm with Peepers, it sounds like this car was put together right, congratulations on a great setup! I'm sorry if I missed this, but was it pure meth or a water/meth mix? Also, what RPM did you leave the line at? Our goals are very similar to yours and I'm really encouraged to see that you were able to cut those 60' times on 225's. We run 225/45/17 Michelin PS2's and I was worried that that might not be enough tire to effectively put the power down. Once again congrats! If I said I wasn't a little jealous I'd be lying haha.

Looks like a nice setup. Great times and glad to see you're using DsMap:thumb:

2955 with driver. 14 degrees around 4000rpm. On the dyno, 20psi hits by 3760rpm, and full spool not long after 4k. For comparison, my Evo16 powered Talon likes timing in the 20's, with 25 degrees by 7k producing best results.

AFR wise, I ran as rich as possible while still maintaining maximum power. At 11.3 power will drop off a little, and 11.9-12.0 made the same numbers as 11.6:1. I've made over 500 dyno pulls on my own cars testing various parts and tuning strategies.

100% meth, and I leave at 5000rpm part throttled on the 2-step. Fidanza flywheel and ACT 2600 w/ street disc. I slip the clutch a little and then the tires do the rest of the slipping. My 90 Talon has run 1.66 to 60ft on 225/55/16 BFG VR4's on stock wheels and I put that car into the 11.70's over 10 years ago on a 20G, 550s, 2G MAS and TMO chip. It eventually went 11.40 @ 123mph with a Frank stage 3 turbo which wasn't bad at the time considering John Shepherd was running 10.72 in Dave B's old car, and 10.95 is his red 92 AWD.

holy shit. 10.9 on that setup.that is some good stuff right there :)

im not talking sh!t but. it makes me feel better about my car . i was just hoping to break 10.999 with what i got.?

how much power did it make ?

Holy crap! How did you run an 11.92 on stock injectors and clutch? I'm amazed that the clutch held up! What PSI were you at for that pass?

474whp, 421tq on our in house Mustang AWD dyno.

Stock injectors with an AEM methanol kit which adds fuel, as well as base fuel pressure around 50psi. The clutch was a jobber replacement unit that came with the car when I bought it, and it did slip at the track on each upshift. Still cut some 1.7x 60fts though.

Congrats, Lowell. That how is done. We need to drive our cars more, just like you did. Last weekend, I was reading Turbo magazine from 1999 and all these guys were there: Buschur, Shep ,Tim Switzer, Jeff Hill, Extreme motorsports, etc. Same results, as you: nice times on a small turbos and small injectors. It was all about LOW END power, good launch and good driving, same as you. Good luck.
