First time out with the 16g

Took the car out for the first time this weekend. Overall very happy with the results for the the very first time having this car out and the first time tracking it.

Best pass of the day was a 13.26@102mph

Ran three passes on the day. First two passes were near identical 13.66's with near identical 1.90 60ft's. That was on 14psi on the S16g.

Upped the boost to 17psi for another pass and knocked out the 13.26 with a 1.85 60ft.

Very nice. Get the most out of that 16g with e85 and 1000cc+ injectors, you will not regret it. One of my favorite setups on the DSM, and i've had quite a few.

Not bad at all for untuned and 17psi! If you can get that 60' down into the 1.69-1.71 region, you've got 13.00-12.90's in it. I ran 12.90's with a similar trap speed in the 1/8th. Then again I'm AWD Auto so I trap less than an equally timed 5-speed would. It'll be a very, very nice little street car with a solid tune, more boost, and decent 60's!

It was able to build and hold 17lbs on the brakes, duel piston fronts, and i wasn't spinning. Seems like it just needs more power, but the trap was solid, so idk. Did you have significant weight reduction on that 12.90's pass?

Agreed, i love the 16g's, insta-boost and tons of torque. Fun little street turbos.

The 12.90 pass was actually full weight. AWD Auto, full leather interior, sound system, no spare tire though, but I weigh 220-240 as well. Lol.


I think you're going through what I was experiencing. Since you're brake boosting and not moving any air, your IATs are climbing and you may be getting some knock which is retarding timing/cutting power. I solved this by ignoring the knock sensor in Jackal until MPH was over XXmph and X RPM. The mod list on the 1G in my sig marked as SOLD is relatively what I had done at the time. It was an eGay 16G, but I also had a Cyclone IM actuated via Jackal. The SD and tuning came later and I actually ended up trapping 91mph in the 1/8th before all was said and done and I parted the car out to go to culinary school. But I digress.


I'd bank on the rising IATs and knock while brake boosting causing you some headaches and killing your launching power.



And absolutely FTW on the 16G setup. My 16G/SD/Cyclone setup was the most fun street car I've honestly ever had. Power and torque on demand, spinning all four wheels like it was its job. Such a great running, good gas mileage, "quick" street car. I'd recommend that for anyone wanting just your basic quick, simple less expensive good running street DSM.

Nice times for a basically stock car. I've always owned 5spd cars so I'm no pro at autos, but this may help improve your launch and 60' numbers if it's something your not doing already.

At the starting line, shift your auto gearbox into neutral and floor the brake pedal with your left foot. Rev the engine once and quickly get off the throttle. You will feel the brake pedal sink further to the floor. This greatly increases the braking force. Now shift back into gear. You will now be able to rev up the engine even higher against the torque converter.

Thanks, the only real "mods" are parts that come stock on another car . Im pretty anxious to get link on this car and see what i can get out of these 550's and see how that 60ft improves with a little more timing down low.

I didnt do this method on the first pass and it really wanted to pull through the brakes. On the second path i did neutral rev it and yeah night and day difference. It sat right still til full boost and launched nicely. 60ft improved .05 from the first to the second pass as well.

We actually had a few gallons of race fuel on hand. But i didnt feel like pushing it first time out. If my parts come in before next weekend i might splash a few gallons in. See if there are any gains to be had.

You would be much better off running a gallon or two of e85 mixed with pump 93 to lean out the mixture a bit. You'd have noticeable gains, not to mention much cheaper and safer (imo) than race gas.

I guess it depends on how much injector will be left after upping the boost. I wont be able to do any testing until he end of the week. Being limited by the 550's i hadnt considered e85. On race gas, the 550's should be fine for the s16g.

I'll try to post up some pump gas vs race gas logs next weekend. Or if theres enough injector i'll play around with some e85 mix.

I'm in no way trying to discredit the OP as I'm struggling to get my first auto car to work, but I went 13.0's @ 102 in 2002 in my 1G manual with an unported 2G e/m, Buschur O2 housing, 3" turboback and a K&N drop in, nothing else.

Still stock smic, stock injectors, fuel pump, stock I/C pipes on an 100k mile motor and 14B on 16psi on pump gas. I'm starting to regret the auto route although I know it'll be consistent in the long run it's just aggravating that my new car has way more supporting mods and can't go as fast.

Im switching to e85 as soon as i find the time for putting 1000cc injectors and the walboro 455 in. The 16g kicks butt in these cars. Its quick and street friendly for sure.

Could be cooler than your climate so it can produce just enough torque to get over "the hump" or there could be differences in fuel quality and such. Altitude makes a difference as well. Make sure you have no boost or exhaust leaks whatsoever and if all fails, use the anti-lag function in link and just slightly retard the timing and maybe enrich fuel 1%. Do leak and compression tests first.

All thats been done. Only issue i have right now is valve seals starting to go a bit. My car wont rev past 3k with brake on though. Ive been staying away from antilag since its a driver but maybe e85 will make a difference. Im also at the mile high altitude

I think my wheel and tire combo had a lot to do with it. The heaviest stock wheel with heavy snow tires. Not only are they heavy but the soft snow tires were a bit much. If i had some cheap all seasons and spun a little off the line that 60ft would have came down a bit. It didnt exactly bog the launch, but it didnt like it much.

Yeah its once you get quicker where it make up the difference. 1.8 60ft with a manual no problem. Consistent 1.3's now thats something entirely different. Also drivetrain shock and all that. More consistent with less drivetrain issues, sign me up .

I feel dumb saying i dont remember the exact but they were all around 160ish plus or minus 5 or so. I know its not 178 but car has 149k on it. I do have valve atem seals leaking. If i let it warm up idling i blow smoke for about a block then it clears out.

Boost test had me rebuild my throttle bady completely and replace stock fpr to an afpr to stop the leaks along with new j pipe gasket.

I still have stock exhaust so maybe that may restrict?

I was told the stock converter could very well be my issue since it dogs out at 2500 to 3k rpm during brake boost. But then i see 17psi from this thread.

I dont want to hijack the thread jsut suprised me to see that.
