101100 cam install

hey i have a set of comp 101100 cams from my 1g that i want to put in my 2g gst auto, can i just simply clamp the belt to the the camgear so it doesnt skip and pop out the olds and pop in the new, or do i have to first set it to TDC, cause on my 1 g i just dropped them in how the old ones were facing and everything was fine and the car ran great, wondering if it would work the same thanks guys
