Hi I'm new here and I just purchased a Eclipse GST that the PO says it needs a new alternator but I looked at the fuse box and the fuse for the alternator is blown so I'm thinking it might just be that.

IDK I'm not sure what do you guys think?

I think I can speak for everyone when I say we have no idea, as you gave us no history and just a picture of a missing fuse. If you want to try a new one, try a new one.

Sorry for lack off iinformation I just got the car and just recently signed up for this website I'm still new to all this

The car won't start though it did a couple days ago but now I think think the battery is dead and when I found the 100a fuse under the fuse box it was hanging on by a thread and the metal part inside was blown so I took it off but I don't even know how to put it back in because it looks like those 2 metal clips in the picture are squeezed together idk if its supposed to be that way

Your fuse location looks different than the one on my current 99 as well as the 95 fusebox I have. Both of mine use fuses that have two prongs that slide into thin slots on each side of the fuse slot and then are secured underneath on the sides by small bolts (I think 8mm). I can see bolts in the picture so maybe yours is actually the same and the blurry picture is just confusing my eyes. If yours is the same, get a fuse, insert, and bolt it into place and see what happens.

Yea its the one next to the yellow one I'm talking about. It looks as if the sides were squeezed together and it looks pinched I think there supposed to be standing straight up. I been having weird electric issues at first I would press the door lock button inside the the car and it would only lock the passenger side door and not the driver side now it doesn't unlock either side. Also my key doesn't open the driver side but it opens the passenger side.

The guy I bought it from says it worked for him so idk what I did wrong LOL I remember using the factory keyless entry when I first got it and the car beeped twice, so it might be the factory alarm or something the car is drained now because the battery gotta be dead by now and the fuse for the alternator is blown. I'm hoping its just the fuse and the alternator itself.haha I hope I provide d enough information

Definitely replace the fuse bro, you can't really test anything else till you do. Hopefully it was just a bad fuse but if the new one blows you have some sort of electrical issue, bad ground, crossed wires some how. Just be carful getting the old fuse out might wanna disconnect the battery, stay on the safe side. It looks like someone tried to rip the fuse out, but didn't realize you have to remove the 8 or 10mm bolt on the side.

I had that fuse get loose on me last night after I put in a new fuel filter. Went to start the car and it cranked then pop, nothing, no more power. Wiggled the fuse and pushed it down and the car was back up and running.

Yea my friend is gonna take a look at it this week last thing I wanna do is take it to dealer and have them charge me an arm and a leg for something simple so do I have to bend the two metal pieces in the 100a fuse slot back in position?

Where do I get another one of those metal things for the fuse switch because this one is cleary bent and no good

It will be attached to the new 100amp fuse bro. Just go to napa or whatever and ask for one or look in the isle by the fuses. It's a easy fix as long as it doesn't blow again right away. You need to remove the bolts on the side of that fuse to remove the rest that's there. Be sure to disconnect battery first.

Thanks you guys are a great help! I'm glad I joined tbis forum

NAPA AUTO PARTS is this the one I need idk it looks slightly different from the one that came out of the fuse box its the same color but the sides look different

Yes, that one in the link is the one. That particular fuse blows due to user error. When one is changing an alternator out, it is wise to always disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Otherwise the fuse blows when they go to loosen the nut and touch the O2 housing.

Any time your working with your electrical system in your car, disconnect the battery. Save yourself from possibly frying things, the fuse doesn't always save you, sometimes it can get past and fry components. And its a good idea to remove watches and rings not only could you shock yourself if the battery is connected you could weld the ring to your finger, or blow a watch off your arm. Also it makes it easier to get caught up on things when wearing rings and watches. :)

C'mon, didn't you play with 9V batteries as a kid, you won't get shocked by a car battery or most any system on a car. The few exceptions are spark plugs and cars with HID headlights. But most of that stuff is sealed and somewhat idiotproof.

Just disconnect the negative side, don't need to do both sides. If you DO disconnect the battery entirely, always unhook negative side first, so you don't arch and burn up the pretty paint or pee your pants.

Lol 9v are nothing to what ive played with, I actually like getting shocked myself hahahaha I have been by just about everything you can think of. A few times enough to knock me on my ass LOL. Just better to be causes when working on things on the car, don't wanna accidentally fry something. And definitely just disconnecting negative is plenty and only takes a sec.
