After 3 years of not racing I made it up to Beaver Springs in central PA Friday night. I learned that I need a lot of practice getting the car off of the line, and some safety equipment.
Setup is:
96 GSX.
Pictures.
2.0 bored .020" with Ross pistons and Groden rods.
FRH race head, Supertech dual springs, 1mm valves, Crower 414 cams.
FRH intake manifold with Q45 throttlebody.
1600cc injectors.
A pair of 255hp's intank, and a 342 inline for fuel pumps.
Ongreen Performance exhaust manfiold
GT4202R turbo, 1.01AR turbine housing.
PTT twin disc.
Shep Dogbox.
4" exhaust.
MAF-T.
DSMLink.
E85 for fuel.
Sumitomo Z rated all season radials, as this car sees a good amount of street driving.
I built this car myself, other than the head, machine work on the block, and a few aluminum welds. I even assembled the dogbox myself. It's been quite a learning experience.
The car did 615HP on a 2WD 248C, 28psi and 13* of timing. Currently boost is fighting me and it builds 30psi, then tapers up to 34psi and holds from 7000rpm on, I also upped the timing to about 19* total.
I kept claiming the car would do 135-138MPH. It was cool to meet my expectations and surpass them. This is the first time that has happened at the track for me, ever.
On to the numbers.
First pass.
60ft 2.441
1/8th [email protected]
1/4th [email protected]
Second pass. For some reason, I my train of thought completely derailed and spilled 10,000 gallons of toxic material into a local stream. I banged the rev limiter for a good .5sec in 3rd gear, that's why the 1/4th MPH is down a bit.
60ft 2.174

Time runs were over and it was time for elimination. Since I'm never competative in bracket racing, I decided to go for broke and dialed a 10.95.
I got laughed at by people at the track, a lot.
Last pass felt good but slower than my second pass. Not to be mistaken for anything other than a DSM, it threw the water pump belt at some point going down the track.
After getting very nervious about my stock brakes slowing me down by the end of the shutdown lane, I pulled off and investigated, the belt was hanging from the water pump pulley.
A track official came down to see if everything was alright. He asked if I knew what I ran. Of course I didn't, he told me and I almost soiled myself.

I'm pretty happy considering my best pass before last night was in 2004 and 11.9@122. I think I'm just scratching the surface of what the car is capable of, now I need practice to get the ET to agree with the MPH.
I suppose it's time to install a cage, do something with the brakes, and consider a chute.
