$10,000 and a 1gen. What should I buy?

So basically I've had my 1st gen GSX as a project car for almost two years now. During the time that I've owned it, it has never ran or moved from its spot in the garage.

Recently I've decided to take a loan out for $10,000 to finish it. But going over my list of mods that I want to do, it looks like even that won't be enough. I've already spent a few thousand dollars on it so far and maybe you guys can help me out on deciding what to get next.

My mod list as it stands right now:

6 bolt block-
1g rods
2g pistons
Clevite rod bearings (soon to get mains as well)
Arp mains (going to buy the rod bolts soon)
Balance shafts removed
New front case w/oil pump gears
All new timing components w/a new kevlar timing belt
New alternator

1g Head-
Mild street port
HKS 272's w/adjustable cam gears
Crower valves w/1mm over black nitrated exhaust valves

From the list of stuff that I want to get I would've already spent my 10,000 and would still need more money. Unless of course all of you guys could steer me in the right direction or at least suggest some parts that I should or should not buy from my list.

I want my car to produce about 400 hp no more no less. I want the car to accelerate fast, (hence the BB turbo from Slow Boy) and have a very strong midrange. Handling is very important to me, as I am very much interested in road racing over drag racing. So as long as it's nimble and corners flat I'll be happy.

Based on my parts that I have and the parts that I want to buy, could any of you help me out as to what my next move for my car should be.

Your in the same situation my friend is in, he's had his car for 2 years now and never driven it. Don't go into debt for your car like that, if you wreck it a week after you finally get it together you're screwed. Take your time, pay cash, and do it right.
You have some good ideas for what you want to do with your car, as for the suspension...the Ground Control coilovers are inexpensive and would do just fine for road racing to strart out. I just purchased a custom made seat for my big a$$ for $500 from Butler Racing, their standard size seats are only $200 which is a lot less than a MOMO or Sparco.
Look around hard enough and you can reach your goals for the money you want to spend.

Yes I agree with zero bar. Check out megan racing for a set of seats, they are around 250$ and imo they look pretty nice, But with your current situation I wouldn't start doing up the interior, i would get it running first if you decide to keep it and not use it as a parts car.

As an alternative, You can always buy a very nice condition 2gB awd 5spd for $10,000 or less. Then, You can sell your project car, And put that money back on the loan.. Or into the new gsx.

I agree. You could buy someone's "project" that they got tired of...or maybe they just needed money. I'm an eBay powerseller and I've gotten several cars off of eBay for great prices. (Also sold several there too...) So look around and see what you can find....Finding a good deal on eBay is all about 2 things patience and good searches. So number don't be impulsive. Don't forget to check obsecure places like the "parts car" section of the "car and truck parts" section, also check the race car section.

Also, learn how the ebay serches work. for example if you type sevral things in brackets it acts as an "or" seleciton. For example it you type in the following

(DSM, Laser, Talon, Eclipse) engine

you will come up with anything that is listed as a DSM or Laser or Talon or Eclipse engine. Also learn how to eleminate things you don't want by using a minus with brackets. So if I used

(DSM, Laser, Talon, Eclipse) engine -(1.8, 1.8L)

I'd cut out any listing that is listed as a 1.8 or 1.8L. Also...

(DSM, Laser, Talon, Eclipse) (engine, motor) -(1.8, 1.8L)

would reslut in anything that is listed as a DSM or Laser or Talon or Eclipse with either Engine or Motor listed while excluding anything that is listed as a 1.8 or 1.8L. So get creative, use the brackets, use sets of brackets. You come up with much better results and many times better deals.

Wow, simply said, I couldn't have put it better myself. I have resurrected two dsm's from the grave, and the first 'mod' is the most important -- GET IT RUNNING!!! Not just the engine either. Get it on the road and inspected -- that way you can find out all of the little things wrong with it first. My rule: make sure it is a good car before investing alot of money.
