1 prong sensor on thermostat housing

I was putting my car back together and broke a connector off (go figure right?) I can't find the clip to save my life. It's the lowest sensor on the housing, only has one prong. Can anyone tell me what this does and if I necessarily need it?

It's the sender for the coolant temperature gauge. Unless you have a a/m temp gauge or want to over heat and not know it, then yes it is important.

That is for the temp gauge. You definitely need that. Did you break the connector from the sensor, or the connector on the harness?

They connector on the harness but I broke it too short to splice. I'll look out on my parts car and see if that one is any better

Go to radio shack and get a female spade connector like this:

Crimp it to the wire on the harness, and plug in.

As everyone said, it's for the Temperature Gauge on your gauge cluster.

The male piece, on my sensor, broke off so I need to order a new sensor.
