As far as making an adapter, it's not as hard as people think. All you need is a mitsu 3-bolt flange, a mitsu 4-bolt flange, and a length of exhaust tubing. Cut the exhaust tubing to about 3", grind the ends off at a 30 degree angle, weld the flanges on and that's it.

this is not needed at all. Have you ever bolted the mainfold and turbo in question to a 1.8?

actually here ya go I just bolted it toghter on my spare engine
9b turbo+g32b exhaust mani+ 1.8 eclipse motor = no adapter plate any questions?

Yes, I've done it. O2 housing doesn't clear. And with the water pipe installed, there really isn't enough clearance. That manifold looks slightly different from the one I've installed. What year is that from? The one I've installed was flat like the 4G63's manifold. That one appears to rise an inch, which would explain your additional clearance. Nice, clean install tho. Congratulations.

8psi through a 14B on a stock bottom end with no fuel correction or tuning... if it's just the headgasket, you got off light.

its off an 84 and i will try the water pipe . the 02 clears on this one also. but it is part of the down pipe and i dont want to put the engine on a stand right now. but yea it fits pretty well if you ask me

Tha manifold I used was off an 86, and the turbo was off an 86. They may be slightly different, or it's possible the guy changed the O2 housing. But nice job nonetheless. I'll have the FAQ updated.

im not gonna sit here n put down your success.. im just going to say congrats. now many ppl can do it.let alone...alone!...good work. keep it up.

i hope so wut else do ya think it woulda done? and the dam wastegate wasnt opening for some reason i guess thats not good for it either and i didnt have the blow of valve hooked up so maybe when i let of the gas the turbo wasnt done or something i dunno imna pull the head off tomm to see what my damage i wanna do it today but me n my gf anniversary.. so its gonna hafta be tomm .. ill take some pics of the damage (( hoping there is none)) i dunno if its something major its gonna be a while before i get it running but yopu think i bent a rod or all of them? i took all the spark plugs out and turned it over and water shot out about 10 feet so theres plenty of water in there

:dsm: brian

ok pulled the head off today the headgasket was destroyed but nothing else guess i got off lite eh? also when taking the headbolts off i found they werent very tight at all. :| .. not good at all i guess they jus came loose? beats me but i got a new headgasket i allready ordered it before i saw what ginsu said about the headgasket but i got a good one i think its the victor fel-pro i head it was good tho dunno well see maybe ill tighten the headbolts to spec so it wont blow again that would be good rite.. LOL later

when the new headgasket is put on and everything and put all together start the car and let it warm up to operating temp (idleing) then shut it off and re torque them..

And if you're turbo, you retorque to 5lbs more than stock spec. This will help keep the head from rising. Retorque again at 600 miles. Until you get the tuning done, you can expect blown headgaskets and cracked ring lands to become common occurance under heavy load. I've been through about 12 headgaskets since I started the project. As long as I have the car tuned right while I'm beating on it, it doesn't give me any problems. My last headgasket job occured about a year ago, on the side of the freeway (I should have known better than to run 20 pounds on piss gas, but I was feeling lucky). Took about 90 minutes. It's so easy to change, that I keep a spare HG in the trunk. The 1.8 rocks.

so in everyones opion here should i turbo or go with my original plan of selling this stuff and just juice it? oh and i have ag32b cam and afc2 and 290 injectors it that helps? and do i need to intercool at 5-7 psi?

sweet so far im on one headgasket and my gfs buying me a fuel management system which should i get afc?? i kinda have trouble finding parts for the 4g37. what do you mean by tuning your car? like adjusting the timing?what did you do to get it tuned "right"?

:dsm: brian

Nitrous is good.

You don't need an IC at 5-7psi, but it's safer to have a cooler intake charge, and they're cheap. You won't notice much improvement if you added one. If you purge nitrous in your intake manifold, that will cool the charge down anyway.

In case anyone's wondering, the stock rods should be good over 400whp. They're not as thick as the 6-bolt 4G63 rods, but far thicker than the 7-bolt 4G63 rods. The pistons, on the other hand, leave something to be desired.
Size means nothing. I can make some bigger rods out of clay if you like, doesn't mean they're stronger.

Know anything about tensile strengths?
